Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Shit when I first saw Chavez I assumed she was related to Cap in some way due to the name and costume.
Its the Spider-Man dilemma. Jessica Drew has little to no relation with Peter Parker but the common man would naturally assume they do due to similar names and powers.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."![]()
I thought the same thing about American Eagle
being a Captain America character. It wouldn't surprise me if he does get connected to the Super Soldier program assuming he does show up in the MCU.

Huh here's a funny thought. With the apparent integration of the past movie continuities, it means one thing and one thing only.
FLASH WAR

One Flash to rule them all.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."- There's also the lingering, glaring thing about how they could always just de-age Cap using the time machines and "moving time through" him whenever they want, which was something I think HISHE mocked.
They seriously found out the secret to immortality: de-aging. That stuff should be getting mass-produced.
Okey Dokey! That Endgame just casually invented easy time travel and left it lying around is on my mind whenever I see the claim that “What If/Loki/WandaVision are breaking the rules of the MCU”, when no, the prior films did that already. Endgame’s crew really went “so we cured death, uhhhh, let’s just leave that problem to all the future writers.”
Yeah, that's one thing I really liked about the first Amazing Spider-Man was how they handled Flash. He starts off as a stereotypical bully, but then they show a more human side to him when he offers his condolences to Peter after Uncle Ben dies. And by the end of the film, you see the two are on much better terms with each other and seem to be getting along pretty well.
I would've loved to see them explore that angle to their relationship in a sequel... but then The Amazing Spider-Man 2 happened and pretty much killed the franchise.
Yeah. Despite my problems with The Amazing Spider-Man series. They really nailed Flash.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadMCU Flash is basically that loser who makes snide comments that no one likes.
...... Holy fuck right Flash and Peter share the same posse now. The fact they are in the same social circle and its clear that everybody only barely tolerates Flash as they much greatly prefer Peter makes Flash come across as even more of a loser.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Flash in the Raimi trilogy is more of a standard jock jackass (with frosted tips because it was the 00's) very much in the Lee-Dikto-era characterization (as most of Raimi's trilogy is). He only plays a significant role in the first film and is just a bully. ASM Flash is technically the one closer to the mark by being a jock bully but also having some of Flash's more sympathetic traits added on later (like genuine admiration for spidey).
"All you Fascists bound to lose."The thing is that a character like Flash - the Jerk Jock that gives nerds swirlies for not giving him lunch money - basically went obsolete by 2010. That jock-nerd relationship between Flash and Parker is no longer super-relatable, which means you either keep it straight out of legacy or try to modernize. The MCU tries for the latter.

Flash in Spectacular Spider-Man was also a pretty cool character. Then again, what about that series was not cool?
(And please don't say "The fact that it didn't get a third Season." now please
)
Did Raimi Flash even appear outside of Spider-Man 1? I really don't remember him in 2 or 3. Just some generic unnamed bullies, like the guy with the mirror. Might have been neat if the Raimi series had continued to have seen him return, get some character development, maybe become a heroic Venom with that piece of the Symbiote Dr. Connors had. But probably wouldn't happen without Sony forcing it, given Raimi didn't want Venom in the first place.
As for MCU Flash, he's basically just comic relief at this point. He's not physically imposing and not all that popular, so all you're really left with is that he's an asshole. Heck, that guy who took a picture of Pete in Far From Home was closer to the antagonistic bully role. Also, standard Jerk Jock bullies do still exist, even if they're not as common and accepted as they used to be. But yeah, one would hope a school like the one MCU Peter is in wouldn't allow physical bullying, at the very least. So Flash probably couldn't get away with it even if he was the physical type.

Granted it’s not like bullying went out of style. It’s still very much an issue, it’s just different.
The issue is as said Flash isn’t even a bully, he’s just this little douche that no one likes. Guy’s not even like captain of the debate club, he’s just another member whose around cause he’s technically qualified for good enough grades.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Flash was never much of a physical bully in general. His main thing was trading insults with Peter. The issue is that most versions of Peter are too nice for that, so they go for something else.
Comics Peter wasn't bullied for being a nerd, he was bullied for being very smug, and since he's not smug in the adaptations, Flash always comes off worse.
I'll be honest, I never really gave a shit about Flash in the movies ever. I know he's supposedly an interesting character in the comics, but he's such a generic Jerk Jock (which as others has said, is basically a Discredited Trope at this point) that I honestly couldn't care less about him.
I don't really like MCU Flash either, but I give him a little more leeway since he's portrayed by Tony Revolori. And I loooooved him in The Grand Budapest Hotel.
