Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Of all the things at risk, the loss of an objective reality is perhaps the most dangerous.I think the weird thing was your wording of "societies evolve differently" when talking about how Russia is a inhumane hellhole fot LGBTQ people. Yeah, some places are worse and some places have retrograde laws in different ways, but it just feels like whataboutism.
This for example:
This is functionally a Distinction Without a Difference as the entire global community knows. Outlawing being gay in public is just outlawing homosexuality with extra steps.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."
Pretty much this. The post reads as "Hey, Russia is really bad with LGBT rights but it's also surprisingly good about abortion rights so things aren't that bad." And I get the "shades of grey" approach but it's so awkwardly forced it inadvertently comes off as trying to downplay Russia's LGBT views. Especially with the specific line "different societies evolve differently", as if Russia just happened to become said hellhole.
Power Rangers got the same rating
just because the yellow ranger vaguely states that she had a girlfriend.
So no, that Eternals is getting that rating does not mean that there's gonna be something explicitly sexual. The simple fact that there's the implication of LGBT themes is enough for Russia to make it 18+.
I wonder if we're going to get more focus on the Kree soon. They kinda seem to be the new Greater-Scope Villain of the MCU now that Thanos is out of the way, and I'm curious to see how other heroes and organizations react to their presence...
"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."They mentioned Kree sleeper-cells in Far From Home, and the Supreme Intelligence is presumably still out there (it being dethroned offscreen would be kind of a boring Anti-Climax). While they'll probably be focusing more on Kang and the multiverse for cosmic threats, I could see them being secondary Overarching Villains for stuff like Captain Marvel's movies or Secret Invasion.

One thing that's going to be interesting to see about Secret Invasion is how they'll handle Talos's physical appearance. Will he be in natural Skrull mode the majority of the time, or will he be in human disguise mode most of the time so we get more of Ben Mendelsohn's normal face? I could see them going with the latter given the larger amount of screentime.
Okey Dokey!I've heard some talk about Super Skrull being a good guy in the MCU, and I would be fine with that, but I think he REALLY needs to be a villain for at least ONE fight with the Fantastic Four. He can turn good after that point, but he needs to be evil at least for him to get their powers and fight them at least once.
I'd honestly like there to be both good Skrulls and evil Skrulls, in order to reflect on how there are virtuous and wicked people within a race. It'd be cool too, since the Skrulls were created in the 60s as stand-ins for communists and potential Soviet spies, so being able to play with that metaphor by having Skrulls who are legitimately nice people and Skrulls who are the Scary Dogmatic Aliens who aren't so different from the Kree would be a nice spinoff of the original idea.
Maybe the Super Skrull is an example of a wartime experiment that some less moral Skrulls created, and now he's gone off and become a legitimate threat.

"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."One of the fun things about the Kree-Skrull War in the comics is that it's a case of Evil Versus Evil with humanity caught in the crossfire. The reinterpretation of Skrulls as refugees in the MCU works incredibly well but it does wind up significantly simplifying the conflict by making the Kree the unambiguous villains of it.
So I get torn between showing a bigger Skrull empire that racks up to the Kree's evil and showing more good or at least less Obviously Evil Kree to help offset, primarily either going with the latter (which is tricky as there's less notable Kree because they're not as fun) or doing a mix of both.
I would say introduce a Skrull royalist faction lead by Veranke.
Unlike many Skrulls who mainly want peace, this faction which is a pretty large enough group wants to bring back the Skrull empire of old and is willing to cow the other peaceful Skrull groups in line for more numbers.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Yeah I’m concerned with what secret invasion will do because now that the MCU has made them refugees there’s so many ways to trip into some bad messages

Forever liveblogging the AvengersMy WMG for Secret Invasion is that Talos will eventually obtain his super strength from the comics at the expense of losing his ability to shapeshift. That way he has a fighting edge against potential evil Skrulls, but at a personal cost.
Also, whether it be Secret Invasion or The Marvels, I reeeaaally want a scene of Monica and Talos's daughter squeeing and hugging each other after not seeing one another for over 30 years. If Talos's daughter appears again.

"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."Oh hey, remember that guy who used to be the CEO of Marvel Entertainment and was responsible for so much of the Executive Meddling that existed in the MCU's first two phases? Looks like he's in trouble.

"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."

The movie has the R-rating for Russia for "brief sexuality". Which probably means it won't be what some are hoping for.
Edit-This is top of the page...
