Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Her fourth wall breaking could also be along the lines of Frank Underwood or Malcolm. Someone who acknowledges the camera for their inner feelings but rarely much more than that. Deadpool not only does that but talks about studio politics, references his actor, has crazy things happen to camera etc.
In short deadpools a much harder breaker of the fourth wall.
You can only write so much in your forum signature. It's not fair that I want to write a piece of writing yet it will cut me off in the midShe-Hulk doesn't break the fourth wall as consistently as Deadpool; it's very much a Depending on the Writer thing.
It's rarely focused on if I understand correctly. She's a quarter but it's not really brought up much. It's how like selina kyle is latina but she could also be italian. I feel like a lot could be said about that.

Thus allowing the audience to see Deadpool 4th wall breaks from the perspective of the other characters.
Yeah, it's basically enough of an Informed Attribute and sufficiently obscure that it's unlikely Whedon would've known, and also would've made for some really Unfortunate Implications if they stuck to her original comics characterization.

Wow, even this thread isn't immune to the Atlantic hurricane season if so many puns on Nick Fury, Maria Hill, and Phil Coulson get dropped in such quick succession.
I don’t agree; the aforementioned Amanda Waller shows it’s possible to write an engaging character of color who’s a ruthless agent, provided one doesn’t make them Stupid Evil. And since the movies didn’t use that characterization of Hill, if anything it gives its own Unfortunate Implications that the reasonable Hill is the white one.
Anyway, May my tangent not Ward off the puns.

Russia just gave Eternals an R-rating
. Three guesses as to why that is...

"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."I have a sinking feeling that the LGBT representation in the film will be literally a kiss or two, and then the Eternal's partner gets killed off so that he'll have angst for the rest of the film. And yet something like that still makes other countries angry enough to age-restrict or ban films because they think it's propaganda or some crap.
"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."I should hope not, I expect it's much more likely that Phastos' husband will be an Advertised Extra who exists just to provide a token gay kiss before vanishing to the void.
I recently ran across that great scene after comics Civil War where Thor... er... has words with Tony
, and I got to thinking about how a scene like that could be adapted to the MCU.
The strict circumstances of the scene would never work in the MCU. The Accords in the films weren't about quite the same thing as in the comics, and Tony himself is nowhere near as draconian and arguably megalomaniacal in the MCU as he can get in the comic, doing none of the heinous acts Thor condemns him for in the scene nor being the kind of person who would do those things. Plus, Tony's dead.
But the idea of the scene is something that would still have a good amount impact in the right story. Like, I'm thinking if we get a plot where X government tries to control New Asgard on Earth, and we get a version of this scene in which Thor role is instead taken by Valkyrie. It could be a great moment of transition between "retired administrator" Valkyrie to "still badass warrior leader" Valkyrie, should we - fingers crossed - ever get that movie or show about the character.
All that's missing is a morally ambiguous superhero who beats to the government's drum to fill the "Tony" side of the concept, something the MCU has somewhat surprisingly never actually done, even as an antagonist.

I think as of right now Walker from Falcon & Winter Soldier (a.k.a "US Agent") is the closest.
I'd actually like seeing that scene with a more Endgame-era-ish approach Thor. Mostly because it'd be a good story beat having the depressed and unimpressive Thor having a Let's Get Dangerous! moment and looking like a true god of thunder.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Valkyrie: -shaking Tony's corpse- "STARRRRK, I would have words with you!"
Rocket: "Even I think this is in bad taste"
Forever liveblogging the AvengersMy only regret is that he didn't kick the shit out of Reed Richards too.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersThor often played kind of a secondary or non-confrontational role in most of the ensemble movies, except the first one.
In the second one he's just kind of around, and skives off to handle his own stuff during the film, and in the third he gets a major subplot, but it's a subplot that - except at the very beginning and end - explicitly takes him away from the main conflict.
He only rarely gets those big one-on-one "[VILLAIN!] I WOULD HAVE WORDS WITH YOU!" moments outside his own movies.

We may not have gotten the speech, but I've already stated (and it made it into the Fridge Brilliance page) that the moment did exist when he started walking towards Thanos' entire army when he was seemingly the only one left.
But I do agree we've missed a lot of classic lines.
One Strip! One Strip!
