Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I mean, honestly? Deadpool does fucked up stuff all the time and gets away with it because it's Played for Laughs. I don't mind seeing him actually get some shit for once.

Thats a funny thing to say considering how hard Marvel tends to synergize with the MCU.
Oh right the Inhumans were also in Agents of Shield.
I get that. Its just Coulson being the reason for it is just so over the top. He kills this one single guy and everyone loses their fucking minds over it. And no one cares that Punisher willingly aligned with Hydra as their attack dog for even less justifiable reasons Wade did.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Coulson was always in a weird spot, because there were frankly tons of characters who already did what Coulson does in the comics. Right hand secret agent of Nick Fury? Yup. Government agent who becomes friends and close allies with the superhero community? Yup. Unflappable man in black type? Yup.
Honestly, there's probably a character in all those niches per each hero at this point, let alone in general. One of the pitfalls of doing Canon Immigrant is bringing a character from a setting where there's nobody in their niche to a setting where there's an abundance of characters in their niche.
So learning that the character kind of meandered for a while before dying and ending up on team evil doesn't surprise me.

Coulson's a fine character, and I wouldn't mind him coming back to the MCU again outside of What If.
Never watched Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D though, due to how long and crazy the show seems to be, and because I'm somewhat convinced the show will enter Canon Discontinuity status at some point.
"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."Uncontroversial opinion: nobody should avenge Maria Hill.
She's the worst.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersShe is very disliked yes. Her role as a character is to be the obstructive government agent who is obsessed with turning the heroes in obedient pawns of the government and does so with inhuman cruelty.
Actually in Secret Empire she did contribute to Deadpool's fall from grace, as Wade tried to make amends for killing Coulson by bringing important info that would have helped the heroes win the war only for Hill to teleport a parking lot on top of him and steal the info for herself. And when the heroes eventually went after Wade, she coordinated the assault on him with no one the wiser that she is purposely screwing him over for her own benefit and sadism.
She is in the top 10 of the worst human beings alive.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Funny enough, What If Maria Hill leans into comic Maria if Nick Fury is incapacitated.

Is Gyrich in that top 10 list? Because I personally hate him and wish him a thousand wedgies.

Forever liveblogging the AvengersAt this point, I'm think the ship on comics accurate Maria has sailed. I think MCU Maria Hill might have ended up like comics Maria if, during the Avengers 1 era, they gave her more focus.
Instead, she was basically just used as Fury's Number Two, and MCU Fury was all for the age of heroes, so Maria went along with it without objection. It'd be a bit jarring if she suddenly turned draconian authoritarian now.
Just as well. Comics Hill is basically Amanda Waller without the Rule of Cool and likeable traits.
