Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

On a funny bit. A couple pages ago there was some debate over whether Thanos constitutes as an Eternals character or not as he's routinely disconnected from them.
Well as of the current Eternals run he's back to being an Eternals character and is plaguing the Eternals as one of the main antagonists of the book.
And he's only in the Eternals book, taking a break from conquering the wider MU for the time being.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Tbf Joker Immunity for the big villains of marvel will always prevail..
It's why we're not ever going to see Magneto, Ultron, Dr. Doom, Thanosz etc. biting it for good their.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."I know nothing is forever but I'll always prefer Thanos dead than alive. I read the last word I ever needed on his character all the way back in 2006's Annihilation.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Fanservice is a dangerous weapon to use, and it should be avoided at all costs. Because the cult of fanservice will bury you alive if you stray from their will. As much as I love the ideas of what's happening in NWH and MOM, if Marvel doesn't go all the way, I fear many will be upset even if it's interesting.
"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."People will be upset even if Marvel does "go all the way" because everyone has a different idea of what that means.

We're getting another uber scientist after Tony, Bruce, Hank, and Shuri so its curious how Reed will be characterized especially since Reed is prolly the most uber of the uber scientists.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."He will be a flawless 1:1 translation of the character to the big screen. Fans will rejoice upon hearing this news.
Unfortunately, fans' exuberation will turn swiftly to dismay when it turns out that the character he's a flawless 1:1 translation of is Professor Impossible from Venture Bros.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.If one could describe their fields, Tony and Shuri are engineers while Bruce and Hank are radiation specialists (presuming Pym Particles fits in the field of radiation).
Reed is like an astrophysicist who focuses on stuff like space and dimensional travel which means encountering beings like Galactus and Annihilus on a common basis.

Now now, I don't think you're giving fans enough credit. I'm sure they won't complain about that at all.
Instead they'll be too busy complaining about Reed Richards being black.
No nothing's set in stone yet but with Johnathan Majors as Kang the chances of a black Reed are honestly likely. And no, people will not take it well.
In seriousness, I wouldn't be opposed to a black Reed, but it'd be cool if we could get, like, a Hispanic Reed or an Asian Reed or Native American Reed or something. As super-geniuses go, we've already got Shuri for black rep. We have so many white super-geniuses that another black one wouldn't go amiss, but there are other ethnicities that could use a super-genius too.
Of course, he'll probably just wind up being white. I don't have confidence in Disney being willing to race-lift the First Family. They did race-lift Kang, but that's only a hint towards Reed's casting if you assume they intend to fully adapt his identity as Nathaniel Richards, rather than just making him some guy named Kang.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub. He's so many generations removed that his race doesn't matter. Many Black people in the US have white ancestors.
I can see them race-lifting the Storms, because stepping down from the half-diversity measure done by the 2015 film isn't a great look.
Ben is, for an obvious reason, less consequential...as long as he's still Jewish. Actually they might also racebend him because Disney does like turning their POC protagonists into nonhumans!
Yeah with race-lifts, turning the character black is kinda the go to. They rarely go with a Hispanic or Asian race-lift weirdly enough.
Not like that movie's application of diversity was that admirable anyway. Sue was still a white woman due to being made adopted instead of a blood sibling to Johnny.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."There might be more recent cases in the comics I’ve missed, but curiously a rare example of a Latinx super-genius in comics was Ultimate Iron Man. At least the Orson Scott Card version; I don’t recall if the retconned Mark Millar version was still Latino.

I've also seen quite a lot of Bollywood Nerd fancasts. Rahul Kohli has been semi-seriously campaigning.
A diverse Storm-sibs fancast I've really liked is Constance Wu and Manny Jacinto.
