Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Oh no, that was meant as a compliment. The man owns the role as a crazy supervillain. Just look back at some of the facial expressions he makes during the movie, it's clear he's having a ton of fun with it.

Attachments are not the problem, Indifference is. Keelah se'lai- Even then, Tony still exits the armor or loses his faceplate inordinately frequently throughout the films. The movies are full of shit like the start of Age of Ultron, where Tony just pops out in the middle of an enemy base during a siege. Exposing himself to potential enemy fire is a small price to pay for that sweet, sweet face time.
I remember recently reading a ficlet where this particular instance got him killed because the scepter happened to be booby trapped.
Okey Dokey!Iron Fist Honest Trailer.
Okay these shows really do suffer from a lack of variety. I think Jessica Jones was the only one not about fighting another gang war.
Though the bit about choreography is a low blow since Jones barely had any time to actually learn how to do the fight scenes.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."TBF, Kang is one of the most visible example of an Expressive Mask in all of comicdom, with a mask so indistinguishable from an actual face that the mask is commonly mistaken for his actual face.
So I can see why Marvel just wouldn't bother with it at all.

I honestly don't hate IF season 1. I rewatched it recently with a clear mind and while I took note of all the bad stuff, I also noticed a lot of good stuff. The Meachums are all fascinating characters, Colleen, Davos, and Gao are compelling, there's some really stylish scenes when the show isn't focusing on martial arts, the Hand are a step up from their depiction in Daredevil S2, and it has some interesting things to say about subjective experience.
The two biggest problems are that Danny Rand himself isn't a very good protagonist (yet) and the fight scenes trend from "somewhat acceptable" to "utterly mediocre". And unfortunately, having your main character and your central premise as a martial arts show both be mediocre is a really unfortunate combination.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Truth be told, for years I actually thought Kang was just a weird blue alien. That said, it would be a shame to just not have the mask since it's an iconic part of his look.
We actually saw a statue of Kang at the very end of Loki. He's wearing the costume, just not the mask or helmet.

We have. There's a statue of him at the end of Loki Season 1. No mask.
'd.
Either way, we can probably expect that any intricate features of Kang (like facial features - IE, skintight mask) aren't going to be too far removed from HWM, because they're going to want every version of Kang to be immediately recognizable as another version of the same actor.
For the helmet, since our resting villain face we saw on the statue didn't have it, my guess is they'll give it the same treatment as Loki's helm or Zemo's mask: usually not present, comes on in one or two moments as a badass nod, etc.

- Okay these shows really do suffer from a lack of variety. I think Jessica Jones was the only one not about fighting another gang war.
Jessica Jones Season 1: Kilgrave. Season 2: Alisa. Season 3: Sallinger.
Daredevil: Fisk for seasons 1 and 3, the Hand in season 2. Gang wars in Hell's Kitchen.
Luke Cage: Gang wars in Harlem.
Iron Fist: Gang wars in Chinatown (between Yangshi-Gonshi and the Hand in season 1, Yangshi-Gonshi, the Golden Tigers and Davos in season 2).
- Though the bit about choreography is a low blow since Jones barely had any time to actually learn how to do the fight scenes.
Most days they were walking on to set and receiving the choreography on that day. There were even days where they only had 15 minutes before filming began to learn the choreography.
Okey Dokey!It is unfortunate.
I do think Iron Fist gets more hate than it really deserves from people looking to Accentuate the Negative, but you can definitely smell Scott Buck's stench on it and you can tell it was rushed out so they could set up Defenders. It's the Iron Man 2 of the Netflix shows.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Iron Fist season 1 isn't very good, but its supporting cast at the very least kept it afloat. I won't say no to David Wenham. But also I feel it has the benefit of coming out the same year as Inhumans, which uh...yeah, most things look positively glowing next to that.
