Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Dorzma Forever! Artwork by Kris Dobbins.
Hey, when you have people speculating that WandaVision is going to reveal Mephisto and Spider-Man trying to rewrite reality to ensure no one knows his secret identity, naturally people think of One More Day.

I fully expect them to do a slight composite of Champions with Young Avengers by having Kamala join the latter team.
I wouldn't be surprised if the eventual name turns out to be Champions but the line-up is primarily Young Avengers characters since all confirmed kid heroes are mostly YA characters.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."It makes sense
What’s considered Typical Avengers roster has shifted since those days
Carol wasn’t prominent back then and now she is. So shove Kamala into the Young Avengers. She’s not directly derivative of Carol? Well, Hulkling isn’t a Hulk. Shrug
Forever liveblogging the AvengersOkay we got Kamala, Ironheart, Billy and Tommy, Chavez, Kate Bishop, & maybe Eli Bradley.
Thats 7 characters, 2 Champions and 5 YA. That a large enough roster, with presumably Hulkling will be the last reveal in Marvels bringing it up to 8 or 7 if Bradley doesn't become Patriot.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I've been comparing it to Flashpoint more than either of those two, tbh. The set up is reminiscent of OMD and OMIT, but the whole "the hero meddles with time, creating a Bad Present that he must then fight to undo" thing the story seems to be going for isn't really in line with either of them.
Speaking of Fantastic Four, from what we can infer from Jon Watts previous experience on Spider-Man, we can get an idea of what to expect from the MCU iteration of Marvel's First Family.
- Doctor Doom won't be tied to the origin of the FF: Let's be honest, this character has been overused so much in every Fantastic Four movie usually by retconning him into the team's origin story. Naturally, the reboot will pretty much ignore him outside of a brief reference to his home country of Latveria and a post-credits appearance to set up his appearance in the sequel.
- The villain will be a Fantastic Four character never before seen on the big screen: As Doom won't be connected to the First Family outside of his relationship with Reed like in the comics, the team will fight an antagonist who was their enemy in their first appearance in 1961. That antagonist will be Mole Man, who has appeared in animated shows and video games but never in live-action at all (though he was planned to appear in Fantastic Four (2015) before he was cut). He'll probably be connected to the FF's origin in the MCU and his role will be similar to Mysterio in Spider-Man: Far From Home in which he seems to be a trustworthy figure but is later revealed to be a devious mastermind (albeit more sympathetic).
- The Fantastic Four's origin will be tied to SHIELD or SWORD: Just like the Avengers or Hank Pym and Janet van Dyne, their backstory is going to be tied to one of these groups, given their expertise in dealing with extraterrestrial beings and technology. Reed, Sue, Ben and Johnny will all be scientists sent on a mission by either agency to investigate cosmic storms near Earth. Like in the comics, the mission will go wrong and the four will come out of the rocket or starship with superpowers. However, SHIELD or SWORD would keep the FF's existence under wraps since they are better to have as valuable agents performing covert missions than having them become public celebrities operating independently from them until the end. It's possible that all of this will happen in the post-Infinity Saga present of the MCU after Hulk used the nano gauntlet to release massive amounts of cosmic energy, but there's the possibility that the reboot will be set in the past (particularly the 1960s) to set it apart from past FF movies and to explain why they didn't fight Thanos.
- It will be a family dramedy: Watts' Spider-Man films were heavy on both drama and comedy, especially the latter. He'll take the same approach with the Fantastic Four from incessantly bickering with each other to fighting the greatest threats the world has ever known.
- The cast will be comprised of A-listers and unknowns/rising stars: As explained by Feige, the Fantastic Four film will have big-name and lesser-known actors. John Krasinski is a very popular choice for Mr. Fantastic though there is a possibility that he might not join the FF cast and Emily Blunt (a fan favorite choice for Invisible Woman) has gone on record that she would play a superhero if that character was cool and has grown rather lukewarm of superhero movies/TV shows ever since she was forced to drop out of Iron Man 2. There's also rumors emanating from Giant Freakin Robot and FandomWire that the Fantastic Four will be race-swapped and in their 20s-30s but this is rather unlikely because (1) The FF are recognizable and popular, (2) The last time this happened to a member of the team (Human Torch) it didn't go well with fans and (3) they did something similar with Fox's last reboot which was a disaster. Plus both sites aren't always 100% reliable (just look at some of their clams). It reminds me of similar rumors that Magneto, Charles Xavier and/or Kitty Pryde will be made black but nothing has ever come of it. I can see some of the supporting cast and villains raceswapped, it's also not the first time that this has happened (just look at Kerry Washington's Alicia Masters in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer) and Watts has done this thing with Spider-Man as well.
As a bonus, Spider-Man is probably going to team up with the MCU Fantastic Four like he did in the comics. The Future Foundation is also going to be set up in an FF sequel too.

The thing is all the other movies have been of somewhat questionable quality. I could see the MCU doing Doom simply for the fact that they want to do him justice, which my understanding is the other three... didn't.
You can only write so much in your forum signature. It's not fair that I want to write a piece of writing yet it will cut me off in the midI completely forgot we had Ironheart coming too. If they do bring in Miles, having him with the Young Avengers/Champions would be a good way of giving him a different role to Peter
Plus Cassie Lang is around and the right age now, and with Kang in the picture, Iron Lad would be easy to bring in. Maybe even in Quantumania?

The funny thing is that the 1994 Fantastic Four movie in spite of its low budget actually does manage to give Doom some sinister presence in the first half, to the point where he almost feels genuinely threatening. It eventually falls apart a bit when he's a fully revealed character, culminating in him doing wild gestures and literally writing the numbers in the air when giving the heroes 12 hours to surrender.
And yet it's still the best live action version of him so far.

In regards to Doom in the MCU, I think he will be a political exile living in America and fighting for Latverian independence. After the Snap wiped Sokovia from the face of the Earth and the ensuing chaos from the Blip, Doom will have his chance to restore Latveria to its former glory. He probably won't be killed off in the sequel and will appear in more MCU films as the other Big Bad besides Kang.

Doom is one of those villains I think would benefit from being as close to his comic book self as possible rather than adjusted too much for the big screen. Gimme the clunky metal armor and green robe, give me him being the king of a small nation, give me him being a master of both technology and magic.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Anyone up for Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Doctor Doom? His role as Jaime Lannister in Game of Thrones is a good example of how to portray the character in the MCU: Villainous but ultimately conflicted and rather sympathetic, not to mention suffering a nasty injury in the past.

Since Doom will be, should be, wearing a mask the whole time I don’t see a problem with recasting someone already used
Forever liveblogging the AvengersHe will The Faceless for the majority of the MCU FF sequel until he's dramatically-unmasked.
