Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Did anyone else notice that Doctor Strange was acting a little weird? Sort of a little devilous. Especially early in the trailer. Any chance it might be Mephisto?

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadOkay, now that I've calmed down a bit, I do want to say that I'm honestly not too upset that Strange kinda screwed things up and also had a hand in causing the multiverse. He's been a sorcerer for a little over two or three years at this point (discounting the parts where he was y'know, dead), compared to the decades, if not centuries of experience other Masters of the Mystic Arts have had over the years. So him making a massive error just to help someone and/or show off in a moment of weakness doesn't seem too farfetched in my opinion.
"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."
At the same time, Wong implies it was a dangerous spell and that Strange knew the risks, but let his cockiness and/or desire to help Peter get in the way of moral judgement. So it just goes to show that Doctor Strange isn't a perfect person, even after his Character Development. Which I'm okay with.
Granted considering Peter’s situation, his life effectively ruined because of Mysterio Strange probability figured the potential risks were worth it since it’s solving a worthy problem. It’s not like he’s using a world altering spell for minor reasons, he’s trying to give Peter his life back here which makes it very understandable.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."
I heard rumors that Charlie Cox had to come back to the set of this film for supposed reshoots, but they seem really spotty so I wouldn't put my foot on it yet. It would be real cool if Matt Murdock did make a cameo here though. I've never watched Daredevil or any of the other Netflix TV shows, but it would be nice to acknowledge them in some capacity like they did with Jarvis in Endgame.
Finally saw the new Spider Man trailer.
Err... not sure I like that they're going with a Reset Button plot with everyone forgetting that Peter is Spider-Man. I am seriously hoping the spell gets undone in some way.
I saw several people though speculate that it could be a hallucination created by Strange to teach Parker a lesson. I'd be kinda all for that... although I'm not sure how the multiverse would figure into all that.
Speaking of the multiverse, is this supposed to be before or after Multiverse of Madness?
Honestly, I find Dr. Strange being in a Spider Man film kinda funny, since, back when the first Strange movie was in production there were rumors that Peter Parker would be in it, all because Tom Holland was visiting the set one day.

Like creepy stories? Check out my book!Presumably before - for one this sets it up, and secondly wherever Wong goes it seems he ends up showing up in Shang Chi, which I am guessing overlaps with this one at least partly.
Talking of Multiverse of Madness, it's pretty funny that two Raimi villains show up in this film just before he makes his MCU debut.
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."I hope Peter does find a way to get the public off his back about being Spider-Man.
See this is why secret identities are necessary. People like Tony and Steve, they don’t need it their already public figures. But for Peter people knowing who is is nothing but a hassle and obstruction to living life.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Tony was already basically a celebrity anyway so it wasn't a huge upheaval, Steve didn't have family or friends outside of SHIELD/other "out" Superheroes to be affected.
It's actually interesting that it's taken the MCU this long to really delve into the superhero Vs civilian life question*
- Well Daredevil on Netflix did it but that's ambiguously canon now
It seems that a lot of people are getting it wrong. Strange does not create the Multiverse. He breaks the boundaries and pulls the Sinister Six from their realities to "our" reality (the MCU). Traversing the Multiverse is supposed to be hard, that's the entire purpose of America Chavez character from Multiverse of Madness. She can move between realities with ease. That is also supposedly what Wanda does in that movie. She will accidentally break the boundaries after tampering with the Darkhold, but on a larger scale. Either between several "normal" realities, or between "our" reality and the Chaos Dimension.
PS Sorry for the rant, but getting the lore wrong is my Berserk Button :-)

Of all the things at risk, the loss of an objective reality is perhaps the most dangerous.

Dock Ock is actually a cousin of Ralph Bohner's.
