Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Damn it. I really wanted to forget that person. He is part of those groups of youtubers that are popular for making hour long videos shitting on every show I like and yet because of that, youtube seems to think that I would like to watch their videos.

The Final NameHis criticisms are also very shallow, especially considering how long his critiques are. He showed a montage of Loki getting beaten up a bunch on his Disney+ series and contrasted that with him giving the Avengers a good fight as if that alone is evidence of character assassination. Let's completely ignore context! He also accused Sylvie of usurping the protagonist position from Loki even though he has more screen time and the show clearly revolves around him, not her.
Combined with EFAP, it makes me wonder if Mau Ler actually watches movies or if he keeps pausing every second.

Every Frame A Pause
I think the problem is I didn't really get into Star Wars until 2018 (and no it was not through the Disney films, good god no), so I just took notice of all that stuff. On that same token, it's annoying how certain people liken Captain Marvel to The Last Jedi when I can't think of a single similarity between both movies past them being Disney tentpoles with female leads that involve outer space. You'd think women are a foreign concept to these people. They bring up characters like Wonder Woman and Ellen Ripley as a counter but then that just makes them seem unaccepting of added female representation in established franchises which is arguably just as bad.
Just something kind of related to bring up, I feel like hype often dictates a work's critical reception on release. Some good examples include the likes of Terminator 3, Superman Returns, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, and Prometheus having Rotten Tomatoes scores in the 70s despite all being very contentious - I get the feeling critics were just happy that those franchises came back in the first place after such a hiatus.
By that same token I feel like maybe a tiny handful of critics often praise an MCU movie just for being an MCU movie, which I think is a testament to how the MCU has seemingly gotten a rhythm going that tends to please critics and general audiences. I say this mostly because I thought Captain Marvel and Joker were of comparable quality (both 6-7/10 movies IMO), and if you slash 10% off of Captain Marvel then the two movies have around the same RT score. So maybe a tenth of all reviews for any given MCU movie will automatically be positive just because it has the same things that work for the franchise in general.
I also feel like more than ever before reviews, both professional and not, have become more agenda-driven lately. And I mean far more than just political agendas.
There's a reason why the most professional and respected of critics at least attempt to defy the Reviews Are the Gospel trope.
One of the funniest “wow is nothing not political in this world anymore” moments of last year was seeing that a PMC that tried to instigate a coup in Venezuela
was a fan of one of those hater Youtube channels.

And Pacific Rim!
