Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Ego seems to have been a Celestial that for some reason lacked a body.
My is that Knowhere (the severed Celestial head) is what's left of Ego's original body and that the circumstances that separated him from said body also wiped his memories of it.

Disgusted, but not surprisedThe entire planet was Ego's body.
Meanwhile Kevin Feige gave a bunch of interviews:
- About Spider-Man FFH: "It will be in theaters on December 17, and there will be a trailer before that, you can be assured."
- Season 2 of Loki will start filming "between next year and the year after," which means it will be released after Quantumania. Since Jonathan Majors is in both of them, we will either see two different Kang variants, or Quantumania has a Downer / Bittersweet Ending, and Kang is not defeated in it.
- About the next Avengers film: "I think we want there to be a reasonable amount of time from the Endgame to start a new saga, which is already underway and already started. And then you need time, as you did in Phase 1, to build that saga before you start bringing everyone together."

Of all the things at risk, the loss of an objective reality is perhaps the most dangerous.Ok, I checked the GotG2 transcript
:
Do Celestials even have original bodies? How is a Celestial born in the MCU? And what do Celestials other than Ego need? Why are they protecting humans from the Deviants?
PS So, Ego had a "glorious purpose" as well. I watched it so long ago that I forgot about it.

Of all the things at risk, the loss of an objective reality is perhaps the most dangerous. We don't really know much about Celestial biology in the MCU. Even in the comics, the Celestials' "bodies" kind of blur the line between organic and technology. Their "bodies" may in fact be Humongous Mecha inhabited by the Celestials' energy.
Disgusted, but not surprised
Celestials in the comics can even combine into a bigger and more powerful Celestial. Though it's not in the style of a Combining Mecha and more of a Dragonball Z Fusion Dance.
Four Celestials once did that to curbstomp Galactus since he was overpowering them when they were separate.

Disgusted, but not surprisedI turned on the subtitles, she says "emergence", not "emergency".
Edit: Ego was using his children as living batteries. What if other Celestials are also harnessing energy to power up some technology, maybe weapon, and Eternals are actually protecting their facility or something.

Of all the things at risk, the loss of an objective reality is perhaps the most dangerous.I was thinking prior that I would possibly be more hyped for Eternals if it wasn't an MCU property. I like the idea of an ageless family having an awkward reunion and kind of want that to be focused on with out MCU distractions. However, I am hyped to see Celestials do stuff.
Also, I wonder if there's potential for them to have some shared history with the Manderin given that guy's apparent age.
It should be noted that in the comics the Celestials are a specific race of cosmic beings. Not every small-C celestial being is a big-C Celestial - Ego isn't, Galactus isn't, etc.
It sounds confusing but that's what happens when an alien race is named after an actual word in the English language.
They could possibly retcon "Celestial" to be more of a classification but then that obfuscates the fact that the Celestials are specifically these giant cosmic scientists engaging in a fair amount of Ancient Astronauts experimentation shit.
Someone on reddit
figured out what the "emergence" from the Eternals trailer (and the entire movie) is all about. I'm hiding it under the spoiler tag because it seems very likely.
See the image
◊ - A Celestial Seed being dropped into the Earth. In the comics, Celestial seeds use the evolutionary power made by species on the surface to power up and be born into new Celestials, destroying the planet.
My own predictions: The Eternals are actually tasked with protecting and hatching the Seed, and need humans only as a power source (not dissimilar to Ego), but Sersi will want to protect humans and prevent the destruction of the planet instead. Ikaris will proceed with the original plan, and they will fight each other. Since MCU must go on, Sersi and Co will win.

Of all the things at risk, the loss of an objective reality is perhaps the most dangerous.![]()
But if that's the case, why didn't any of the Eternals make a note when Ego tried to do this back in 1989? You'd think that would be something they'd want to interfere in...
Speaking of Ego, how is it that he never found out about the existence of his fellow Celestials on Earth when they've literally been on Earth since the beginning of humanity 7,000 years ago?

"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."No clue, but I'm sure they'll Hand Wave it somehow.
Of all the things at risk, the loss of an objective reality is perhaps the most dangerous.Ego's weird as far as Celestials go, really. He claims to have made up the name himself, claims to be the only Celestial in existence, and seems to have never even met any of the others.
I wouldn't be surprised if any Celestials (or the Eternals, in talking about them) in this move deride Ego as... well... an egomaniac who wasn't actually one of them.

Easy: Ego was a Celestial. Next question.
