Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Yeah, when Knull showed up with an army of enslaved Celestials I was just thinking "join the club".
I also stopped taking Galactus seriously after the recent Thor comics retconned him as being a Herald of an even bigger cosmic threat. Especially since Thor then immediately killed both of them like it was nothing.
That said, props to Thor and the writer for not giving Galactus a pass for his multiple planetary genocides like so many others have done. When Thor killed Galactus he made a point of condemning him for all of the worlds he devoured.

Disgusted, but not surprisedArishem the Judge ordering the Eternals not to get involved in Earthly affairs does at least give us a decent answer as to why they never intervened. But then again, since the teaser trailer flat out says that the Eternals have guided humanity throughout the centuries, it baffles me as to why Arishem would even allow his creations to help another species when they aren't even facing off against the Deviants.

In the recent series the Eternals could help but they could not interfere
It’s a delicate distinction
Forever liveblogging the AvengersYou can participate without interfering I guess
If you don’t believe in butterfly effect
Forever liveblogging the AvengersIn the aforementioned comic it was about not dictating the course of humanity
Kingo considered killing one of Genghis’ generals to stop all the destruction but decided not to because there was no external interference causing it. Just humans being humans
Forever liveblogging the AvengersMaybe this aspect of the Eternals might hold up in the film. Or not, depending on if the film decides to keep that trait of characters in the adaptation. Though in the case of helping humans, it might be smaller things like stopping a gang of thugs or the occasional Been There, Shaped History thing.

I kind of want them to specifically establish that they had nothing to do with the Pyramids just to screw a bit with the popular ancient aliens conspiracy theory.
"Did you build the pyramids?"
"Dude, a pyramid is literally just a well-organized pile of rocks. I'd build something far more interesting if I had the chance."
I like that in Eternals Ikaris is being set up kind of as the not intentionally funny member of the group. Not the Comically Serious, but a few moments we've seen already have shown that even when he's being serious he kind of goofs up.
I could see the triangle between him Sersei and Whitman being resolved with Sersei choosing Whitman and one of the others casually ribbing Ikaris about it since none of them seem to take him too seriously with the probable exceptions of Ajak and Sersei.
Its amusing looking up the look of the comic Eternals and most images are from the original Kirby comic with little modern images.
And you can also tell how obscure the property is by the fact said designs lack the decades long updating and refining most characters go through. Essentially everyone looks the same for the most part, like Ikaris and Makkari.
Its like contrast with the New Gods, Darkseid specifically whose prominence allows his design to shift over the years from his classic skirt get-up to say the New 52 armor. Or say the 2017 Mister Miracle comic where Miracle and Orion's looks are very slim and slick due to the modern art-style.
And in some cases some looks just don't look that impressive. I mean comic Kro he's just...... well he's no Darkseid thats for sure.
How are they gonna circle the square of Celestials being a thing now and also calling Ego a celestial?
My various fanfics.

Remember when Civil War 2 opened with a bunch of Celestials
Couldn’t take them seriously after that I’m afraid
Knull shows up with some goo Celestials he’s goo enslaved and I’m like ho hum what else you got, that means NOTHING to me anymore
