Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

DC aside, Hank Pym definitely does
It’s his checkered past which gives him the gray morality needed to satisfy women

Forever liveblogging the AvengersSo after that little…detour, I think it’s safe to say the next big batch of news will occur around Cinema Con (apparently they’re premiering Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings at the convention). Between Sony having a panel and that, we may be on the brink of more news.
Found this gem on the first page:
Man nowadays, the first Avengers film feels small-scale in comparison to everything that's come after it. Juggling six heroes? Try a two-part film that juggles 50+ heroes! Holy hell, we've come a long way.
While looking through the first ten pages, I find it hilarious how all these years later, we're still debating how Marvel will introduce the mutants into the MCU and talking about how DC is having trouble getting it's act together.
Also, everyone seemed certain that the Skrulls were going to be in the first Avengers movie. Granted, the Chitauri were originally supposed to be the Ultimate Universe's take on them, but then the movie changed them so much they became the defacto portrayal of the species going forward.

Well... at least DC's been doing a lot better lately. Especially their most recent outing... with help from some Marvel talent, ironically.
Some other fun posts to appreciate with the benefit of hindsight
This one regarding Marvel announcing two unknown movies for 2014:
*laughs in multiverse/time-travel shennanigans*
Oh, you sweet summer child.
Fox may not be renewing the Fantastic Four license!
Its only a rumor, but if true, squee!
It reminds me of that time
Elizabeth Olsen spoiled her own show six years in advance.

Okey Dokey!I'll be honest, I'm amazed that the MCU is still going, and that so many people, myself included, are still loving what they're doing going forward. I thought there would have to be a time where I was going to tell myself "Yeah, I probably have to let this stuff go now and go be an adult" or something among those lines. But I'm still here and loving it now. With all the other projects I started following crashing and burning, I'm just happy this is is still alive and kicking. Yeah, it's not perfect, but this experiment has been pretty successful and really inspiring in some ways. So I'm happy I'm a fan.
"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."It's also interesting how Marvel has built basically the only cinematic universe of note. It seems like everyone else from DC to Universal has tried and mostly failed at, or at least to the degree that no one's expecting a big Myth Arc from any of them.
I feel like the ultimate problem with trying to start a cinematic universe is that every studio tries to jump to the end. Marvel started out very small and unfocused on the future when they made Iron Man, only telling his story and nothing else. It took a while for them to develop characters from other places in the same world, and then finally get them to meet. Doing a cinematic universe is possible, but very hard since very few people have the patience and planning of Kevin Feige.
On an unrelated note, is it weird to feel that watching the MCU is almost like a time capsule at this point? Sure, there's a lot of advanced stuff for 2008-2013 standards, but man it's kinda weird to see how dated some of the earlier films look. And yet, that's kinda part of the charm.

"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh...""Hank Pym is only really pushed by Marvel because he is a Kirby-Lee creation, and therefore automatically special. Because he exists in an industry in which inertia is paramount, Hank Pym continues to be used despite a lack of public interest or renown, iconic imagery or archetypal appeal, an important role to fill in the Marvel Universe (what with the more popular Mr. Fantastic and Iron Man around), iconic stories, stable titles, or even a stable heroic identity or code name.
"
It is intersting this coment because it the end it was kinda right, hank get largely demoted to secondary chararter in the second movie and it focus in scott, so rather than having another scientist that be redundant with hulk and stark, he is the somewhat bumbling antman.
"I agree Ultron should be saved for later, I guess that for a solo film it would make for an excellent tragic story that still details the personality of thee character. I do like your idea though and would make mroe sense. "
......Oh dear.....
And about cinematic universe: I will said the thing that make Marvel stand is consistent quality, not all marvel universe are good, but so far no of them are outright bad in the same it bombs and deserve to be mock, at the very worst they are boring and a kind of "watch once only" like first antman or black widow. Meaning that at the very least you saw a mindless entretainment for a couple of hours and at best you kinda saw a movie like black manter or winter soldier.
if you compared this to other cinematic universe is were problem starts: DC is all over the place in quality, ranging to kinda sorta good(man of steel, aquaman, shazam), polarizing broken bases(Bv S) to downright bad(wheedon justice league, Sucide squad) to "Oh my dear"(Wonder woman), make it a hit or miss and dosent have engagability like marvel universe does.
