Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I can live with the purple energy shields and constructs being an additional power for Kamala. Just as long as she still gets her Sizeshifting powers. And gets to yell, "Embiggen!" I mean I guess the energy constructs would be more useful especially in the Marvels, which will definitely be in space, than shape-shifting alone.
When we're done, there won't be anything left. That's the downside of being invisible.
Re the Kamala news, that makes me apprehensive.
Also making me apprhensive is a quote from Jeremy Renner about how Kate is a (annoying) fangirl of Hawkeye
, since the whole point of their relationship in the comics is how little respect Kate has for him.
I guess at best maybe it will be like a Peter B. Parker situation. But it will suck if Kate is the Kamala to Clint's Carol, because that's the completely wrong dynamic.
Actually she does have great amounts of respect for him. She very much looks up to the guy as a mentor.
The thing with the dynamic is Clint's own flaws make that hard. He tends to make terrible decisions and fuck-ups which leaves Kate flabbergasted on occasion.
Though not that Kate is incapable of making mistakes on her own.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I don't think Bautista not being asked back is too weird. What If...? must have an insanely high budget for an animated series, but I imagine there still have to be financial concessions somewhere on the production pipeline. I have no idea how big Drax's role is but it may not have made sense to pay Bautista.
They've gotten a truly insane number of past actors to return for this, but among the most glaring absences is RDJ, for instance, which I'm guessing just came down to his huge pay rate making it unfeasible to hire him for this.

Yeah, I'm not too surprised that some of the bigger actors didn't return for this series. Hell, I'm surprised we got bigger names on here. Like I said earlier, I was certain that Kurt Russell was going to be recast as Ego, but it also applies for Jeff Goldblum, Benicio del Toro and Andy Serkis among others. I guess money is a limiting factor, but I would've gone for keeping smaller guys like Bautista (for a certain definition of smaller) and replacing the bigger roles. But eh, I'm still happy we got most of the cast consisting of Role Reprisals.
Also, I really, really really hope we get some Ham-to-Ham Combat between the Grandmaster and the Collector. It's a shame we never got to see them meet in the prime timeline, especially since the two are canonically brothers in the MCU.

"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."It helps that Hawkguy’s thing is something she can attempt to imitate
And that she actually had a lot of various skills including swordery. Hawkeye, pre retcon, is the guy that happened to come back to life around when she was in the market to rob a mentor
Forever liveblogging the AvengersSo since Crimson Dynamo (not a big spoiler, but just in case I'm tagging it) got namedropped in Black Widow, do you think they might make an appearance at some point down the line? Or was it just a reference for those who know the character? The way it was mentioned seemed like they could go either way.
He was pretty much amalgamated into Whiplash in Iron Man 2, so an actual appearance is somewhat unlikely.

Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonNow we need 7 Iron Men to to clash with 13 Crimson Dynamos to create the ultimate armour- χ-Armour!

I assure you, I'm perfectly trustable personThe premise of "Soviet counterpart to (x) hero" is such an old hat of Marvel's (and Iron Man in particular had a lot of variants of those) that it really led to a problem when the Cold War ended. The last great one of those was Omega Red, who was created just after the Soviet Union collapsed with a backstory of being the Last of His Kind of the Soviet super-soldiers counterpart to the US' Weapon X project.
Iron Man's rogues gallery is pretty much entirely interchangeable evil capitalists, Iron Man geopolitical counterparts (usually from the Soviet Union), and the Mandarin.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Naturally, Why We're Bummed Communism Fell is a big part of these former Soviet supers' characterization. Titanium Man in particular is bitter about it. The final insult for him was seeing a Stark Industries branch in Moscow.
Disgusted, but not surprised

So Inhumans fans, in the unlikely event Feige decides to use the Inhumans, do you think there's a way to salvage Ike Perlmutter's rushed/failed TV series that was produced for Marvel Television? Or will it have to be entirely rebooted? I ask because I have zero knowledge of anything related to those characters.
