Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Hulk did it because it was largely emitting Gamma radiation, which he's already a sponge for, not just because he's big and strong.
Carol might be able to muscle through that too; she can fly around outer space without any sort of radiation protection, after all. We don't know for certain, though.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!![]()

She had it when she was actively trying to get it to the time machine van, so her thoughts weren't about using it at all.
And then she was more concerned with stopping Thanos from using it.
So yeah, while she had her hands on it a few times, the opportunity to try never came because there was always a more immediate concern.
One Strip! One Strip!I would love to see a What If? of Carol using the Infinity Gauntlet.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"It's important to note that even Thanos was overwhelmed at first when he finally assembled the Infinity Gauntlet and took a few seconds to get used to the full power he now wielded. And those few seconds led to an ax getting hurled in his chest and nearly claiming his life.
Honestly, it's a miracle that Tony got about half a minute wielding that Gauntlet before snapping his fingers. He could've easily been taken out by a stray shot or by Thanos rushing him.
But at this point, I'm just nitpicking for the sake of nitpicking.

Y'know, I actually wonder if when Strange was going through all those alternate possibilities, just how many of them weren't actual failures but rather a success immediately followed by the TVA fucking in and going "Nope, you didn't do it right, this'll create Kang... uh, I mean Sacred Timeline, whatever" and resetting it all?

What branches of canon have done this? When the writers want to have villains cross the Moral Event Horizon they do it by having them kill civilians not soldiers who instigated the conflict.
Armies and soldiers do indeed kill other armies and soldiers in battle. That's quite normal.
Not sure what's been getting at here?
Thats confusing. Not sure which example they mean? Everything I can think off like Hela, Poject Insight or Red Skull or Mysterio's city destruction plans would have clearly hit populated civilian areas? That's not really comparable to the good guys killing bad guys who intend to ensure that happens.

"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."I think its simply trying to force grey morality into a conflict where it doesn't exist between clear good guys and bad guys.
It's not a good thing as it reeks of false equivalence where aggressors are somehow comparable to their victims.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Didn't one of the Fridge pages raise the idea that the Nova-Kree treaty was the Kree seeking to enlist Nova Corps for the ongoing war between the Kree and the Skrulls?

Okey Dokey! It just hit me that though the Avengers restored all the life across the universe that Thanos destroyed, we haven’t had a space movie since and won’t for a while, so we don’t know how the rest of the galaxy feels about that.
Does alien society idolize the Avengers too? Do the even know the Avengers were involved? Do they not know or care what happened?
Superhero comics tend to try a mildly contradictory concept where Earth is the nexus of the greatest heroes in the universe who save all of reality time and again, while at the same time being a backwater nobody cares about or takes seriously, so I wonder how the MCU will handle that.
Okay, just read through that updated cast listing. And now I'm super excited! A couple of things that stood out to me:
Seems that Benedict Cumberbatch still is Strange after all in this series. People were saying he was Other Darrin'd in this show, which confused the hell outta me. I mean, I get replacing Iron Man and Captain America, since their actors want to move on to new projects. But recasting somebody still involved in the MCU at large still confuses me. Seems to still be the case with Captain Marvel, which bothers me if only because Brie Larson haters are going to latch onto it.
Carrie Coon and Tom-Vaughan Lawlor are back, which means we'll get to see the Black Order again! I really hope Marvel expands on them, since I thought they were genuinely interesting characters who deserve more screen time. I understand why they didn't have much room to stuff in Infinity War and Endgame, but they definitely can shine here, which I'm happy about.
Clark Gregg's return will mean he gets to interact with the MCU at large once again, minus that brief role he played in Captain Marvel. I haven't seen Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, (don't sue me), so it'll be nice to see him back again for the first time in a while.
Kurt Russell is a surprise. I was certain he was going to be Other Darrin'd, since Ego seemed very much like a one-off role, and I had read reports he was planning on retiring soon. But hey, I think he's a great actor, and I'm excited to see him return to Ego.
I'm glad we'll still get a little more Georges St-Pierre in this show. I thought he would've been gone for good given his fate in Falcon and Winter Soldier.
"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."Come to think of it, given how large the universe is, there's bound to be countless civilizations that have absolutely no context of the Snap. Say, a planet that's millions of light years away from Earth and has had no contact with any other civilizations. They wouldn't know about the Avengers or Thanos. All the know is that one day, half of their population turned to dust and then five years later they came back. No real explanation given, it's just something that happened.
Can you imagine what that would do their civilization? What happens five years after everyone came back? Would they worry that this will be a repeating incident? How would their religons or scientists try to explain it? It'd be like if it happened to us in the real world, except we don't live in a world where magic space rocks exist. That we know of. It would truly seem like an act of god to us.

There was a story like this in a She Hulk run where Stark Whatever was accused of stealing a supervillain’s IP. When Jen finally managed to have a conversation with Tony he just agreed to write a massive check
Right, so I got
'ed and didn't notice, so I never got an answer to this question: did he do it?

I feel like Groot could also withstand the Gauntlet. Or at least he'd turn back into Baby Groot after doing it.
The legend has returned.
