Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Marvel should make some movie posters inspired by comic covers
Marketing tested every major cast member assembled in some way is fine and good but embrace your roots marvel
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI'm curious if the Ten Rings will take HYDRA's place as the big evil organization that everyone fears and hates for the next few phases. Because since they technically appeared in Phase 1 and early Phase 2 before just...vanishing, I'd imagine most people's reactions would be something amongst the lines of "Wait, these guys are an actual threat??? I thought their leader was some failed drunken British actor!"

"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."Real for Actual True Mandarin has a Killian dartboard in his office
Forever liveblogging the AvengersGood lord is Marvel marketing starting to follow WB's path? Because that's not good.
"The devil's got all the good gear. What's God got? The Inspiral Carpets and nuns. Fuck that." - Liam GallagherThey've reworked the Mandarin's rings into the iron rings
used in martial arts like Hung Gar, most likely to make them more authentically Chinese.
Personally a fan of it, does leave room for the more "traditional" rings in the future too.

They really should and it honestly sucks that they don't. They haven't been super-faithful but there's a lot of really good Marvel covers that they should really lean into. Would instantly separate them from DC at least - DC's been doing a lot better with more artistic promotion but they've been leaving that money on the table too.
I honestly don't have a problem with the poster. It might not be the best promotional image in the world, but I don't think it's terrible by any means, except maybe the background colors.
And in regards to the Shane Black thing, I was looking at this more from a Watsonian POV (as I often do when it comes to stuff like this). Yeah, the fake Mandarin thing was controversial, but if the Ten Rings return as an international threat, it would be interesting to see some commentary on how the U.S let the War on Terror fuel their fears of something that seemed pretty shady in retrospect, and lampshade that the group hasn't been active since late 2012/early 2013.
In other news, it seems that Kevin Feige isn't happy about the hybrid release of Black Widow either
. I'll give the guy credit in that he seems to be standing with Scarlett for the time being.
ScarJo's agent responds
:
Apparently Feige is furious too
.
Safe to say the chances of Feige leaving Marvel just shot way up.

x5: Yeah, I've seen decent arguments elsewhere that this is just the narrative game of lawyers for high-profile parties jousting in public before settling in private. One can very reasonably argue that Disney deliberately let shit lapse like this because they benefit more from settling now than negotiating beforehand, which is still scummy as hell but Scarlett's lawyers suing puts everyone on that table and at the end of the day all they have to do is agree on how much Disney pays her. The chances of this actually going to court are near-zero and until Feige's comment I wasn't thinking there'd even be any serious bridges burned from this.
That said...
x3: ....no? The hell? Why?
We're talking about a man that's built his whole career on the Marvel brand, you really think he's gonna set fire to it for Scarlett Johansson of all people?

I mean, if Chapek keeps throwing him under the bus....
This is the only period there's been any conflict between Marvel and Disney. And exactly when did Chapek threw Feige under the bus? In none of the statements so far Feige is even mentioned.
Feige was probably more miserable during the Perlmutter era than now, and yet he didn't quit then, he is not going to quit now when we currently live in a extraordinary situation.
I think Mario 1995 is just a troll. All they've done in this thread is come in, doomsay that the MCU is on a path to destruction, and then refuse to engage in the conversation when questioned.

I’m honestly not sure why the Mandarin’s rings are huge arm braces but they look stylish.
The legend has returned.
