Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I just saw a comment that highlighted how messed up the situation with Johansson is. She wasn't just the lead actor, she was also one of the executive producers on the film. That's a position that holds a lot of power over a film's production. So, that's even bigger blow that Disney broke their contract with her.

Johansson’s lawsuit says
that her agents attempted to reach out for renegotiation due to the streaming release but received no response from Disney or Marvel.
(Honestly I hope she does.)

"The devil's got all the good gear. What's God got? The Inspiral Carpets and nuns. Fuck that." - Liam GallagherWhile I personally dislike Scarlet Johansson, if a legal contract was broken then she has all right to dispute it. And even if she's already rich, it's about the principle of the thing. Being rich might make her more likely to win the suit but the same rules should apply, and compared to Disney she's the underdog here.

I still think a settlement is how it will end. Studios would rather prefer not to see their accounting methods scrutinized, and money always talks.
Heck, they could offer her a higher upfront payment for that upcoming Tower of Terror movie in addition to the settlement and she'll say, "Cool." The pandemic will (probably) be ancient history by then.

I don't want to doomsay too much, but I'm worried that the pandemic won't be ancient history anytime soon, just based on everyone's behavioral patterns in regards to taking it seriously. Heck, I still think this thing might go on for the entire decade or longer, given the whole Delta variant situation. And if that's the case, that's going to really affect budgeting for future projects, unless they all jump to Disney+ or something.

"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."It's not in space yet, you mean...
Of course, with all those asshole millionaires jockeying for their own fifteen minutes in space, it's only a matter of time before the virus gets into orbit.

By now, it should be clear to all except the most dense of us that sheep are secretly conspiring to kill us all and steal our pants.
This is both off-topic and a little absurd. Suborbital spaceflights are self-contained and are only up there for a few minutes. Viruses can't live in the vacuum of space anyway, even if they could somehow escape the sealed environment of the spacecraft. The worst that could happen is that the people on board get sick.
There has been a lot of concern about astronauts going to the International Space Station, particularly from Russia, since their quarantine protocols aren't quite as rigorous as NASA's. But anyone and anything going to the ISS is supposed to be quarantined for several weeks before getting on a rocket.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"When did she defend Whedon? I do recall her defending Woody Allen, or at least saying she had no issue working with him.
If I am wrong, please correct me.

I believe it was some interview
with Entertainment Weekly not too long ago.
It was basically a comment that went "well, I didn't have a problem working with him". For all we know she was telling the truth; everything indicates Whedon did indeed go out of his way to be accommodating to her and her pregnancy during the filming of AOU, in contrast to the way he treated Charisma Carpenter. Tasteless and perhaps insensitive given the circumstances, albeit not something to burn her at the stake over either.
She may very well have not had problems with Whedon to be fair. She had considerably more clout and influence than Carpenter and is a big enough name that if she pushed back it could legitimately cause him problems. Bullies tend to pick on easy targets.
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."Also Marvel might have been stricter so its possible he just couldn't do anything.
Executive Meddling after all.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Here's a good example during Mark Millar's tenure on The Authority comics.
"Executive Meddling: After Mark Millar took over, either DC or Wildstorm began demanding and forcing constant changes. This reached its peak with the "Brave New World" arc, where the arc was actually sidetracked for four months for the "Transfer of Power" arc (which pissed Millar off to no end, because by the time he was given the series back, 9/11 happened, creating a pretense for the executives to put the book on hiatus and force him and Art Adams to make even further changes.) To be fair to the executives, Millar was not easy to work with, constantly attempting to push the limits of what was permissible for a CCA-approved series (had the executives not intervened, "Brave New World would have featured references to the rape of Jenny Sparks' corpse, and a scene in which Swift's "husband" uses her mouth as an ashtray in a deliberately-sexualized manner, among other potentially offensive content) and often injecting his political views into the series."

Anything with the name of Nemesis
is bad news.

Just Makima. So from Disney’s response, it sounds like Scarlett might actually be getting some form of compensation from the Disney+ revenue, and she is looking to renegotiate that deal, which every single other company had to do in Hollywood. However the articles also state that Disney and Marvel were unwilling to renegotiate for a share of the Disney+ revenue which tells me it could be non-financial compensation.
Okey Dokey!

All they can do is just say "Here's $30-$50 million. Go crazy."
