Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

> I highly doubt Marvel would try something as wacky as trying to have Nicolas Cage reprise, lol.
He is a high profile actor,so they might have been tempted once due to Star Power but yeah, there's better choices out there for sure
this is going to get messy

have a listen and have a link to my discord serverHm, so that's why Kevin Feige didn't want this on Disney Plus.
Like creepy stories? Check out my book!I mean, maybe? Now I'm starting to wonder if BP2 will use Ambiguous Time Period as a workaround in case they change their minds about recasting T'Challa. (That said, I say this hesitantly because despite Twitter going up and down about "#RecastTChalla", methinks we're just going to have to suck it up and accept the truth that T'Challa is gone.)
Oh gods, help us.
In lighter news, Matt Damon is back as Actor Loki for Thor: Love and Thunder.
IIRC, the initial run of Kamala's solo series also leaned very hard into the New Jersey setting, which was an aspect of that comic that I really liked, so I definitely hope that carries over into her Disney+ show.

When we're done, there won't be anything left.I wouldn’t recommend they do this but one of the final and bonkers story arcs in Priest’s legendary but apparently underselling run was T’Challa finding a future T’Challa who acted like excessively silver age T’Challa and there were just two T’Challa’s hanging around kinging
I don’t remember where I’m going with this
Forever liveblogging the Avengers![]()

In my experience online response has been a lot more receptive of using multiverse variants to explain a recasting vs. just straight-up recasting.
I'm not a fan of it but if that's the limbo pole they feel they need to go under then fuck it.
Also @ Scarlett suing: I'm honestly surprised it was never renegotiated especially after the whole mess with HBO Max and Wonder Woman 1984. But then this is probably the "cheaper" route or whatever, I doubt this is actually anything super-serious by ScarJo make that money.
Natasha learned well from the Red Guardian. Seize the means of production!

"All you Fascists bound to lose."I can see this getting quickly settled but at the same time chances of Shang-Chi and Eternals getting the PA treatment have greatly diminished.
Plus Kev is likely annoyed.

"The devil's got all the good gear. What's God got? The Inspiral Carpets and nuns. Fuck that." - Liam GallagherNever mind. As soon as I posted, I realized what "PA" meant.

Like creepy stories? Check out my book! Some people on Facebook have said that this likely blows any chance of Scarlett re-appearing in the MCU again.
Sure, Natasha was killed off in Endgame, but I heard fans talking about how they could have done a Black Widow 2, set during the 5 year skip.
Like creepy stories? Check out my book!Keep in mind that Scarlett's beef is with Disney, not Marvel Studios. Remember that Disney was responsible for the firing of James Gunn, who was eventually rehired due to pressure from several people both in Marvel and from fans. So I don't think it's impossible for Scarlett to return. I wouldn't count on it, especially with this happening so suddenly, but I wouldn't completely dismiss it either.
"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."No, I get that. If anything, it's what I'm praying it turns out to be (as morbid as it sounds), but the whole "Kevin said no recast" thing makes it far more unlikely.
I mean, both choices were already prickly calls from the start, but how often do big studios wind up changing their minds with these kinds of decisions?

I recall reading rumors that said Shang-Chi was set during the post-Snap time skip, but we have yet to hear an official stance on the matter.

One party doing something that violates their explicit contract is the purest form of what lawsuits are for, so I'm ambivalent about the lawsuit news. It doesn't even necessarily have to be a hard feelings thing: Disney promised they would premiere her performance in certain contexts and didn't deliver. Even if you could argue they were kind of forced into it by the situation, a lawsuit it kind of a formality, and I doubt they weren't expecting something like from somebody.
It's a bit similar to the situation between Robin Williams and Disney in the 90's, though iirc Williams was genuinely pissed about that.

Scarlett Johansson is set to sue Disney over putting Black Widow on Disney Premiere Access, claiming it violated her contract
