Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

*3: TLJ's backlash was, effectively, fans who had been led to believe that the story was going one way then revolting because the story was not only not going in the way they believed, but was - in some regards - going in the opposite direction. This led to a galvanizing effect that caused the fanbase to attempt to deify Abrams for supposedly doing the things they wanted (though, as TROS showed, this wasn't actually the case), and being denied this dream by the demonized Johnson who was trying to destroy the fanbase or whatever, eventually creatively reinterpet everything in both movies to fit that ideology (as well as take their fan rage out on other parts of the franchise). Those backlashes, thus, went in an extreme direction, yes, but the inciting factors were effectively the same.
If NWH came out and, say, wasn't in the slightest the second Spider-Verse film people are now so invested in seeing, especially given the Wandavision backlash's reaction to - surprise surprise - that show being about Wanda and the intro into chaos magic and not a vehicle to introduce Mephisto -> prequel to Dr. Strange or Spidey, it's definitely not unreasonable to be cautious about people unnecessarily reacting badly.

The only definitive reason I see so far to believe NWH might involve a multiverse is the reveal that Doc Ock in this film is literally the same guy
from Raimi’s Spider-Man 2. Everything else, speculation.
And even that is weird, because we've also been told Electro isn't the same guy, and Molina makes it clear he doesn't really know what's going on (for one, he doesn't really seem to understand that the Raimi movies and the MCU are not in the same continuity).
As described to him it simply says that his story begins with the Raimi Ock's final scene without clarification - for all we know, he was told that NWH Ock is a Broad Strokes adaptation of 3 Ock with the same general story. Molina doesn't seem to especially care either way.

To be fair, Evolution came out shortly after the first Fox movie, so it was before Logan really blew up as a character.
Plus, the series was more focused on the younger members anyway. It's ironically the only series where the Scott, Jean, Logan Love Triangle was non-existent too.
One Strip! One Strip!

> We still don’t know the basic plot of Eternals.
Well they released a trailer which gave us a rough idea of what to expect, ancient aliens mostly. The Eternals feels like an experiment in seeing how far they push obscure comic characters
