Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

No word yet. We know Jen's a lawyer, so maybe a DA who moonlights as a Serial Killer?
Honestly, I'm being reminded of those people who thought Mephisto would be in WandaVision. (This is about that whole thing with the Cox rumor mill)

Okey Dokey!Allegedly
, a few theaters are using fan-made posters to promote No Way Home as we speak.
The absolute thirst for this movie's existence, and the only thing on my mind is the shock that it's coming out this year, rather than 2022.

The fact that it's the middle of July and we have no teaser yet is admittedly something of a surprise. There were rumors (because of course there were) that they wanted to wait until Loki wrapped up before delivering them. Granted, if we were having a regular comic con and not the CC at home that all the big studios noped out of, odds are very good the trailer would have gotten a big Hall 1-A debut.
Tempting Fate their I see...
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."
Studios love their big premieres, but we knew for months now that every studio worth their salt had said no thanks to CC at home, and even the ones that said yes are just going over older material. Netflix is just talking about old projects, for example, instead of say, announcing the cast of the Gundam movie.
NWH desperately needs a comprehensive trailer, especially since it's coming out relatively soon. I get the impression Disney is sitting on their silence because they think all the speculation is generating hype that they might quash if they give anything solid.
They did something similar for The Last Jedi, iirc.
In short, if a character exists in a Marvel movie or property that isn't an MCU marvel movie or property, it's a rumor.

Just trying to remember off the top of my head... the other two Spider-Men, some of their respective villains, and Daredevil were the big ones.
Some people have really got into theorizing so much they'll inevitably be disappointed. Even if some of those rumours are true, there's no way they'll all be true.
Maybe they were waiting for the season finale of Loki (2021), if the film does go in the multiverse direction.
Lord, I remember back when the first trailer for Far From Home hit, and people were speculating whether it was supposed to take place before Infinity War because Endgame hadn't come out yet.
Michaela Coel from I May Destroy You and The Last Jedi has been cast in Wakanda Forever as...someone.
I'm going to scream if she's Storm. (In a good way.)

I'm not convinced it is a multiverse movie, tbh, since the vast majority of "news" that implies it is has turned out to be fake or misrepresented - right from the very beginning and the first "clues" that made people start theorizing it. I do think it might be a Sinister Six film, though.
I think people are so invested in this is being Dr. Strange 1.5 and not a Spider-Man movie that it's feeding into these rumor mills' clickbait attempts to get them to believe anything, though.

[SLAMS "I'M IN" BUTTON]
Kneejerk post aside, the tweet where I found this out also had a bunch of people in the comments speculating Storm. While I'm always been iffy on introducing Black Panther/Storm (as it reeked of Token Minority Couple), obviously that ship has sailed, but I will lower expectations for any X-People coming in.

The reason I brought up The Last Jedi is because they're really making the same mistake they made there. Giving us no information and letting us fill in the cracks because hype puts butts in seats, without giving any regard to the fact that the lack of official info plus letting rumor mills control the narrative of the film just leads us to believe the movie is going to be an outright different film than it actually is - thus leading to an unfair fan backlash because, naturally, fans these days react badly in mob mentalities just from being wrong (see also, Wandavision).

Wait, isn't NWH pretty much Sony's movie to market and make trailers for? (Honestly asking, because I might be wrong.)

In total fairness the rumor mill has been grinding about Cox cameoing in NWH for months. I can't even remember what started it initially because it's just been blended in with all the other "open secrets" about the movie.
Plus, and it's totally a super-dangerous game to play, but Cox doesn't exactly have the busiest filmography so him needing to suddenly bail a con due to film conflicts is...weird.
All said and done, the problem isn't speculation in and of itself, it's that people lately have gotten surprisingly bad at keeping grounded and losing themselves in the sauce and thrashing when the guessing game goes wrong. Just keep the MST3K Mantra in your head and hype responsibly.
