Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

To my understanding, Kirby contributed with the design of the Iron Man (as he drew the cover), but the heavy lifting of the art was Don Heck. So the character's conception was more so the Lee brothers-Don Heck with some minor input from Kirby, to my understanding.
It's generally hard to really pierce this sort of thing, though. Lee gets talked up a lot as a credit stealer, but the truth is almost everybody in Marvel in those days was kind of shit at sharing credit for a multitude of reasons (ego, pride, money, petty feuds, e.t.c) and there weren't exactly historical records of those wild west days of the industry, so it's kind of "Rashomon"-Style to pierce it together.
Kirby has a more famous example with Spider-Man where Kirby sometimes claimed to have essentially created the character wholesale, but basically everybody involved in the industry disputes this and says the character as we know was entirely on Lee-Dikto (with Kirby just doing the cover).
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Whenever Hollywood gets their hands on Superman he does invariably turn into Jesus, yeah. Hollywood does that a lot. Movies love adapting characters in a way that inserts Christian themes or even outwrites rewrites them as blatant Jesus, God, Satan analogues.

Has got me thinking about an elseworlds take on Clark where the Moses aspect is amplified.
Mostly I like the idea of Clark Kent having a speech impediment.
But I do like the idea of the Kryptonian city in a bottle being in Earth's custody and Clark having to confront his adoptive planet over it's freedom.

Complete unknown (if a critical darling of the indie scene), but by this point this is not a surprise with Marvel (given "promising unknowns" is their usual M.O). Interesting that he's a Muslim Pakistani-american rather than Afro-american as I would have expected.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Actually it has just occurred to me that Mahershala Ali and Bassam Tariq are both Muslims. I don't know if that was a coincidence, if Mahershala Ali recommended Tariq's name due a shared interest in the faith, or if they're trying to angle for the fabled Black Muslim history in the US.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Ooooh, that last bit would be quite the interesting angle to go. I'd be very surprised if Marvel had black Muslim representation beforehand and as noted Blade being black has never been super-important so that sort of lean would be quite the fascinating redirect.
Doubt it goes there but it's fun to think about.
Speaking of Mulsim superheroes, is the Ms. Marvel show still set to come out this year?

If Kirby had played a larger part in Iron Man's creation, I suspect the armor would have been much weirder-looking.

By now, it should be clear to all except the most dense of us that sheep are secretly conspiring to kill us all and steal our pants.
