Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I love that Don Cheadle's reaction to this nomination is a confused shrug.

Emmy Guest Star rules
(p 51 here) require a performer to appear in less than half of the episodes, which skews against shorter series. Lumbly was in 3/6 so the mouse house would have had to campaign him as supporting, if they did at all.

So can someone explain to me, as someone who knows next to nothing about comics, what exactly makes Kang such a big deal and a Thanos tier threat?
Like, I get that he's a time traveler, but there are plenty of other time travelling villains in fiction who aren't omega-tier threats. Like, what's especially dangerous about Kang's skillset?

Kaze ni Nare! He's one of those fancy renaissance men who is great at everything. He's a genius scientist, tactician, and he's a combatant on the level of Captain America. He uses technology from all up and down the timestream and its advanced enough to vex whole teams of Avengers. He's already conquered the future so he has basically infinite troops and the only reason he doesn't invade with infinite troops is because that would be boring.
But I guess the meta reason is its because he's an early Avengers foe who recurred enough to become iconic and he's tied to a bunch of other iconic people because they're all him, which gives him increased clout even though it mostly involves having his face rubbed into the dirt by the Avengers or Fantastic Four.
I don't know what to tell you. If he doesn't work for you, he doesn't work for you. He's future conqueror man. He may or may not be descended from Reed Richards or Doctor Doom but he's from so far in the future that its silly to think it matters.

Forever liveblogging the AvengersDoesn't link to anything. Make sure you cut off the end part of the link so it ends on .png
Well it says you edited it, so I guess it does link to the image now, although to be fair it did link to an image before, just a placeholder image.

You can only write so much in your forum signature. It's not fair that I want to write a piece of writing yet it will cut me off in the mid
x4 If you have Disney Plus, I'd recommend the Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes episodes "The Man Who Stole Tomorrow," "Come the Conqueror," and "The Kang Dynasty." They were basically my introduction to Kang and they do a good job establishing him as a credible solo villain.

I have to say though, Kang has one of the most atrocious costume designs in comic book history. The green-and-purple tunic is not too bad on its own. But then there's the weird blue gimp mask (which I used to think was his actual skin) and dorky purple helmet combo. And the thigh-high boots.
Kang has no drips whatsoever.
Drip is very important. Zemo himself said it once, he won't stand for no-drip losers.
On an unrelated note I just now realized how amusing it is that Hawkeye is pretty much completely based on his Ultimate incarnation and is arguably the most boring Avenger in terms of portrayal here.
Here's hoping his upcoming show gives him so much needed charm like in the Fraction series.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Kang pulls off the costume through sheer refusal to be embarrassed about it decades later.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI guess Kang is so hyped because not only is he a credible cosmic threat and sufficiently well-exposed, he's also the most notable time-travelling villain in Marvel. He doesn't have much competition in that category, either. I mean, has anybody heard of Future Man
? Or Tomorrow Man
?

And in the movies the acting moments tend to be overshadowed, time-wise and in audience perception, by all the action that's going on.
It's for that reason that I think Olsen and Bettany's Emmy nominations are fairly deserved, because WV actually gave them space to emote and grow rather than what passes for character growth in the movies.
