Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Yeah. I've brought up the Finesse thing a few times.
Spoilers for Black Widow: I originally thought Antonia was Finesse or rather that they combined the two since they do more or less have the same powers. While I eventually guessed that Taskmaster was really Dreykov's daughter, before The Reveal, I still think they took some aspects of Finesse, even if only her gender.
One Strip! One Strip!Mind you, officially, at least, while enhanced mental processing are a huge improvement to photographic reflexes, photographic reflexes aren't all that much of a bonus to emp, since Cap can already learn new fighting styles in a manner of minutes.
Again, officially. Usually, it depends on the writer.
So, watched Black Widow.
It was okay. As others said in this thread, the action scenes and non-action scenes felt pretty disconnected. It felt like I was watching two different movies and changing the channel between them. The action scenes also felt a little more toothless than I was expecting from a movie about Black Widow, compared to some of her action scenes from Winter Soldier.
Black Widow's family were great. The banter between Natasha and Yelena was funny, and Red Guardian is such an awful-yet-lovable person. I hope to see them again in future titles, and am looking forward to Yelena mistakenly(?) going after Hawkeye.
As for Taskmaster... He's my biggest gripe with the movie, by far. The twist of her being Dreykov's daughter was cool (if a little predictable; process of elimination left her as the only possibility pretty fast), but my god does she feel wasted. Due to her situation she has no personality whatsoever. She barely gets any actual scenes, and the few she does are almost entirely just trailer footage we already saw. Most of her fight with Papa Widow is off-screen, and her final "battle" with Nat consists of a single grapple before Nat crushes the vial and frees her. Her actual mimickry power barely even gets utilized and is never explained. I wanted cocky mercenary-for-hire Taskmaster with cool powers, not Diet Diet Bucky. Very disappointing. Almost Malekith-tier "how did you fuck up adapting this character to the movies" disappointing.
I still enjoyed my time with the film but it did feel weaker than most of its Phase 3 predecessors. Glad to hear it's doing well at the box office, though.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Deadpool and Korg React
to the Free Guy trailer.
It begins.
If this is what Disney's letting Reynolds get away with then his movie appearances are going to be fiiiiiiine.
While I don't see it winning because...it's the MCU, that's still very impressive.
This is the best. Thing. Ever. Holy shit!
The Deadpool reaction, I mean. ![]()

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"They look down on everything that's not their preferred niche of hardcore depressing period dramas.
Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks Marathon

Another thing about Tasky I remember (especially cause its among the first comics I read) is that in Avengers Academy Finesse who has similar mimic powers goes to Tasky because she believes he could be her father.
They fight for a bit and while Tasky does believe he could be her father he'll ultimately forget the conversation and her because all her moves are copied same as his, so there's nothing for him to remember.
