Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

There’s always What If for Ultron to have a chance of him being cool.

The mention of sterilization was to relate to Bruce not being able to have sex without Hulking out. Her saying she's a monster was entirely unrelated to that, because she's an assassin who has killed tons of people.

Here's a thought:

The Iron Fist is a title/powerset passed down through the generations, right? So bringing Iron Fist into the MCU doesn't necessarily require bringing in Danny Rand. They could introduce a new Iron Fist, and imply the events of the Netflix series might or might not be true, Broad Strokes style.

I would have agreed with "We'll never see Ultron again" but with the shift to streamih of various miniseries there's suddenly a lot more potential for different kind of stories.

Heck Ultron wouldn't be out of place in a MCU Armour Wars plot.

BW opens with $80 million domestically and $215 million globally.

An interesting note about this is that Disney actually disclosed the Premier Access revenue this time; the film garnering $60 million and counting from the option alone.

  • $80M at the domestic box office
  • $78M in international box office
  • $60M in Disney+ Premier Access (With an implied majority from the US, according to the Deadline analysis.)

So yeah they’re definitely going to cough up the dough to try to get Scar Jo to do another one.

Who do we actually expect to be in Armour Wars outside of Rhodey, Justin Hammer and Iornheart? I would guess a Crimson Dynamo, and maybe Ezekiel Stane?

Ultron would be a fun fit if only because he's a fair eliment of Tony's legacy.

I could see Peter turning up as an example of something "good" Tony achieved, but dang, let Peter move on all ready.

Sam seems fairly likely given the apparent friendship between Rhody and Sam that developed during their time as anvengers together.

Stilt man is a must.

I feel like Happy has a shot to show up here.

As for plot, I have a feeling Rhodey has a whole lot of PTSD from what happened to him throughout the MCU, especially getting crippled in Civil War and getting trapped under several tons of rubble in Endgame.

The legend has returned.

Rhody in the MCU currently facinates me, because he's currently the super hero with the most active duty experience on Earth.

Charlie Cox would be asked back

Especially when there've been rumors that he's filmed scenes for Spider-Man: No Way Home. Mind you, that could be hokum, but then who expected J.K. Simmons to come back as J. Jonah Jameson in Far From Home?

A fun look at some goofy-ass designs from the comics we probably won't see in the films/shows. Featuring the obligatory jab at Hawkeye's hair.

[up][up][up] On that note it’s sad how Hawkeye’s modern design has fallen by the wayside.

He looks very bland now.

Have to agree. I don't love the shirt with arrowhead logo.

Hawkeye is one superhero who needs to lean into the sensational and showman sides of superheroes
