Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

My favourite part of Captain Marvel was her resisting the Central Intelligence. That always felt like the true climax of the movie to me. Everything that followed was like a protracted victory lap.

The thing with Killmonger though is that I can't really defend my position in any way. Which is frustrating. People write these long thoughtful essays about how amazing Killmonger is, and nothing they're saying is wrong, I can see most of it, but it always comes down to... "None of this makes him interesting to watch for me though." He's like this amalgam of compelling concepts, with a cool backstory and thematic resonance, without a central presence for me to care about. It's weird.

Kaze ni Nare!
Yeah, maybe because once she got her power the rest was a forgone conclusion.
And the best fights......
I will said Ironman 1, it was clunky in a good way and I feel it was tony giving EVERYTHING to win.
Bucky vs cap the first time in the highway.
Cap and Bucky vs Tony
Yellowjacket vs Antman
Strange Vs thanos.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"I like most of the fights in Infinity War to be honest.
I almost like the final battle in Endgame, but I've always been a bit distracted by how... contrived it feels. It's like they wanted to have their cake and eat it too. They wanted Thor to abruptly kill Thanos in a shocking way near the beginning of the film, but they ALSO wanted a climactic fight with Thanos as well. So they bring in this version of Thanos that doesn't have ANY of the character development he went through in Infinity War, and then they kick his ass. It's very odd.
Like, imagine the Thanos who killed his daughter, scarred himself, and then went off to live on a farm being the one to fade away into dust at the end of a long, hard-fought battle, realizing that everything he's done was all for naught.

Kaze ni Nare! The Endgame fight was weird in a way that stuck with me: Thor’s hammer is super user-friendly. Like, Steve knew how to use the hammer to conjure lighting within seconds of holding it? The Hel?
Trans rights are human rights. TV Tropes is not a place for bigotry, cruelty, or dickishness, no matter who or their position. You just hold it up and wait for the wi-fi connection.

I think my favourite part of the Endgame fight was when Thanos blasted Captain Marvel away using the Gem of Destruction.
For the incredibly petty reason that I don't like overpowered heroes, of which Captain Marvel is definitely one, and I was happy that someone was able to get one over on her for at least a little while.
I'm still not sure how her power is going to be handled in Captain Marvel 2.

Probably a combination of dealing with a threat she can't just punch (her perception and reflexes are still within the normal human range) and the bad guys having explicit countermeasures.
The Kree already had a power limiter on her for most of her movie. even if it ultimately proven ineffective at containing her power, it does show that in principle it's possible to counteract it.
Yes, my favorite scene in Captain Marvel is when she breaks free of the Supreme Intelligence. That is the emotional climax of the film. Everything after is assorted cleanup. The space battle is a demonstration of absolute power to force the Kree to retreat. There had to be a scene like that in the film to show just how godlike Carol is.
It's important to realize that Captain Marvel follows a different formula than most superhero origin stories. The vast majority of them are characters discovering or earning their powers and growing into the heroic mindset. With Carol, she already has her powers and her mindset but is brainwashed and power limited. Her arc is in remembering who she is.
Her confrontation with Thanos in Endgame is one of my favorite scenes in that film. The realization that she is a cosmic-level threat requires him to pull a dirty trick with the Power stone. That said, Wanda's fight with him is far more emotionally resonant given the personal loss he inflicted on her.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"The Ironman films do have some great fights as Tony is a lot less confident and more improvisional and scrappy in a lot of his fights.
One eliment of the Endgame fight I enjoy is just how over confident 2014 Thanos is. He goes in thinking he's enevitable and then the most bizzare assortment of weirdos who know him inside out but he's got no idea about just put him through the ringer.
There's some SLIGHT frustration in his voice when he tells Wanda "I don't even know who you are" and it says me.
I like Strange and then Tony’s back to back one on ones with Thanos on Titan
Seeing Tony pull out all the stops desperate to beat his personal boogyman and seeing Dr Strange pull some sorcerer supreme worthy moves makes it pretty memorable
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI like Thor Vs Hulk in Ragnarok,if only because the tone, personalities and venue of the fight all make the whole "two super strong brawlers smacking the **** out of each other" actually fit rather than being squeezed in for the sake of it.
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."BW nabs $39.5 million
on Friday. Now estimated to open with $89 million this weekend.
That’s nearly halfway to its stated budget.
Is that a good opening?
Forever liveblogging the Avengers
Depends on the second weekend. If it drops 60%+, then that's a problem.

"The devil's got all the good gear. What's God got? The Inspiral Carpets and nuns. Fuck that." - Liam Gallagher

I note that Captain Marvel's crowning moment is the point where Carol realises she doesn't even need to actually fight the guy and just casually zaps him with literally no effort.
