Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

So Quill turned out worse.
That... tracks.
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.I mean, even a shitty Quill managed to save numerous amounts of people twice.
Sure, Thanos rendered his first heroic act near pointless via just rolling in and shit stomping Xandar anyway, but he still has the whole stopped his psychopathic father from destroying the universe thing under his belt.
Now, he's still gotta pay for giving Thanos the opening to wreck things, and it's gotta be brutal, but I'm sure that will be addressed in Guardians 3.
One Strip! One Strip!Again, I'll point out that Quill matured plenty by the end of Guardians 2, enough so to be an arc-complete character without losing his goofy-uncle-esque charm.
IW and Endgame just regressed him to make a million jokes about him being emasculated by Thor, childishly argumentative with Gamora, or have his faux-reunion with her (who he thought was dead) be setup for a Groin Attack joke (which is actually kind of shitty when you think about it, amusing though Quill's comment is).
I'm hoping Guardians 3 will just kinda... pick Quill's character up where 2 left off and brush off some of his IW/Endgame behavior as the usual slight OOCness from being handled by different writers.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Honestly, Quill backtracking as hard as he did is odd when you consider that James Gunn himself apparently came on to write for him to keep him on track didn't he?
At least I recall hearing that at the time.
One Strip! One Strip!I find that hard to believe.
IW Quill feels like he was written by somebody who neither understood nor liked the character, and deliberately exaggerated his worst traits out of spite for being forced to write him.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! From what I can recall, Gunn mentioned one change he made was during the scene where Quill is about to shoot Gamora. In the original script, Quill ultimately doesn't pull trigger before Thanos takes her away. In the final movie, he changed it so Quill does pull the trigger, but Thanos uses the Reality Stone to turn his shot into some harmless bubbles.
I've always liked the trait of Scott that he seems like a goofball and gets little respect from those around him who seem smarter, but in the end he actually tends to be more mature and responsible than those people even if he goes unrecognized for it.
It's at its strongest in Ant-Man 2, but it continues in Endgame so it looks like it was intentional.
Yeah, I think that's my biggest mark against the two films, even if it is kinda biased. Mc Feely just failed to understand how to handle the Guardians outside of arguably Rocket and Nebula (and even then there's qualms to be had). If they weren't just plain written wrong then they were very under-utilized.
I think I've said this before, I'd be happy if the Guardians/Thanos parts of the films were just folded into Guardians 3 and he was disposed of there. I guess if I had my way all the way through with the execution then we wouldn't really even have another Avengers film but I care like 100x less about the Avengers than the Guardians and I don't think very highly of any of the Avengers films anyway. Also, it wouldn't ruin the ending to Thor: Ragnarok.
Self-serious autistic trans gal who loves rock/metal and animation with all her heart. (she/her)While I have major issues with how a lot of characters were written, especially in Endgame, Rocket and Nebula were my favorite two characters from the original Guardians films, whereas I was largely indifferent to the others, so I wasn't sure how much of it was the writers not getting the characters and how much was just the characters already being annoying to me and the writers keeping them too in character for them to stop annoying me.
Similar to how technically it was Whedon who put his stamp on Widow and Hawkeye in the movies, but Widow becoming a significantly better character in the hands of the Russos and M&M for The Winter Soldier and Civil War, despite diverging significantly from their original characterizations.
Many of the non-Avengers characters diverged from their prior portrayals in Infinity War and Endgame. For some like Doctor Strange, the new personality was more liked than the old one, for some like Spidey becoming a Stark fanboy again it was regressive but comfortably familiar, and then with the Guardians their poor writing really showed because their lovable dysfunction is very different from the characters McFeely, Markus, and the Russos typically write.

It becomes one when the batting average is low enough that you get a mix of usually wrong and only rarely right. Especially since Thor (who was admittedly quite good in IW, Asgard shenanigans aside, but downright unwatchable in EG, and spitting on the work Ragnarok did to get him Rescued from the Scrappy Heap) and the Guardians made up the lion's share of the screentime of IW.

Yeah arguably the only character that was better under Whedon was Hawkeye.
My Real Daddy exists for a reason. Take MCU Spider-Man for example the Russo Brothers technically created the version, but most of what made this version a hit was introduced in his solo films. Same with Black Panther.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadI meant most of the stuff that would define the character was introduced in his solo film like Spider-man. I thought that was pretty clear. What with the full thing saying, "Take MCU Spider-Man for example the Russo Brothers technically created the version, but most of what made this version a hit was introduced in his solo films. Same with Black Panther."
However, he was underutilized in both Avengers movies in my opinion. And for my money a lot more quippy.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup thread
Yes, because God forbid Spider-Man be quippy.
EDIT: Misread that, you were referring to BP. Apologies.
