Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Honestly as I think about it, yeah this is why I have a problem with the Guardians movie shilling, I can longer stand Pratt's incarnation of the character.
Cause yeah the rest of the Guardians can at least act or look differently, as said Gamora is usually depicted as far more violent and angry than she was in the movie.
But Star-Lord no, he is literally just Chris Pratt every single time. Its always the exact same portrayal of the character to always wearing the exact same outfit with little variation and its annoying. The absolute worst was the Guardians cartoon where he Will Friedle using his Ron Stoppable voice so he was even more obnoxious there than he normally is.

Hey, she doesn't have a Breast Plate. That's good at least.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"For him to finally act like a grown-ass man and not an easily emasculated nitwit.
I mean, I think the potential is there. But yeah It'd be nice if whatever evolution he's previously gotten in the last two movies really sticks.
Well, the entire thing with Gamora is either gonna push him to actually being an adult or drag him farther down.
But I'll enjoy watching him suffer as he gets there.
I felt he grew up a little by the end of guardians 2. But Thor showing up had him regress right the hell back and then he missed all the growth potential by being snapped five years
I’d argue that as the guy (predestined) to screw up the attempt to stop Thanos on Titan, him having to be around to deal with it would have been a spectacular source of character beats
It wasn’t the plan, alas
Forever liveblogging the AvengersGuardians 3 would be the perfect opportunity for a wardrobe shift.
Him finally ditching his red jacket for one of his various blue outfits to truly symbolize his growth and finally taking being a Guardian seriously instead of just a small-time merc.

Honestly, I feel it would've been better if Quill was the one Guardian who wasn't snapped instead of Rocket. I think it would've been interesting to have him reflect on how he acted on Titan and basically screwed over the universe, although maybe that would've been too similar to Thor's character arc. I also think it was a missed opportunity to see Quill return to Earth for the first time. We know that his grandfather was still alive thanks to his cameo in the second film, so maybe we could've seen Quill caring for him in his final days? Maybe show Quill suffering from culture shock due to being away from Earth for so long?
I mean, what's done is done, but it probably would've made people a bit more forgiving of his actions in Infinity War if we saw him actually reflect and see the consequences of his actions.
The crossover came at a bad time for Quill as in theory what he went through in Volume 2 with Ego and Yondu could have set him up nicely to undergo a bit of character development.
But then he just got flanderised into probably even more of a childish idiot than he started off as.
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."It’d be different if we saw the new improved mature Quill until Gamora getting kidnapped knocked him into recklessness
Forever liveblogging the AvengersInterestingly when Quill formed the Guardians it was after the Annihilation war where the galaxy was left in shambles after a massive war and he realized they would need a proactive strike against future threats.
Which is sorta the state of the galaxy as Thanos’ war has left it in shambles. Though it has been 5 years the unsnapping has most likely turned it all chaotic again.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Though hopefully its won't be a big deal as it was in the comics especially since Thor has a new (bigger) weapon now.
I mean, being worthy of Mjolnir is always going to be a big deal. But the existence of Stormbreaker does mean Thor probably won't be put down to make it happen.
As for Star-Lord, he may act more mature when it really counts, but I don't expect him to ever not be snarky and impulsive by default. That's not only most of his personality, it's one of the MCU's favorite forms of comedy, for better or worse.
I’m just glad we hopefully won’t be doing the whole Thor’s horribly depressed and gets humiliated and the crap beaten out of him which was his main storyline during the whole Jane saga during the comics.
Especially since that would be repeating Ragnarok and the Infinity Duology’s character arc for Thor.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I definitely agree that with Thor already having Stormbreaker, the story can do a take on the Jane Foster, Goddess of Thunder concept where it's more about the ascension of Jane Foster and not at all about the downfall of Thor.
The overall comedic nature of the film will probably result in many jokes being cracked to that effect, but with the overall conclusion being that it doesn't really matter. Jane Foster has Mjolnir now, she's worthy of it, and through it she is capable of tapping into the same powers Thor has and that will help her do great things. That's what matters, and what you call her is secondary.

He grew up in Guardians 1 and especially 2.
The Infinity War writers just rolled back/ramped up his character to Manchild levels again. I get the impression it was done out of spite.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!
