Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Without chi he can lift about twice his body weight. With chi he can enhance his strength to the point that he can punch through iron.
Basically, think of every superhuman feat you've seen in Kung fu media. Chances are Shang-Chi can do it.

Disgusted, but not surprisedIt also means that, at least originally, the Bruce Lee focus meant he was a bit more “kung fu James Bond” than “mystical kung fu warrior,” with his realm being more low-fantasy spies and assassins than high-fantasy demigods and dragons. He eventually got folded more directly into into the super-mystical side because that’s what everything else martial arts in Marvel was doing.
Still, the more overt magical focus here is almost certainly a result of them choosing to replace Fu Manchu with The Mandarin.
So another Marvel game got announced today, Guardians of the Galaxy.
And of course it’s the exact same movie line-up.
So is there like some corporate mandate from Marvel or Disney? Like pretty much every Guardians product since the movie came out has rigidly stuck to this team.
The Guardians cartoon, the Guardians Telltale cartoon, their appearance Ultimate Alliance 3, it’s always this 5 and Quill always has the near exact same character design though out each thing.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."What I don't get. Why does Quill always have the same design since the movie? The others at least change it up, but Quill always has the same one. It's not even that unique of a costume.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadOdd that it seems to be only playing with Starlord when he's probably the least popular of the whole crew.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Man I'd love for a Got G game to be awesome, but after Avengers the hype just isn't all there.
Self-serious autistic trans gal who loves rock/metal and animation with all her heart. (she/her)IIRC Comics!Gamora actually was rather more brutal than the MCU version. In fact for all that the Guardians are more dysfunctional in the MCU, the comics version of the team is even worse sometimes.
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."Oh man she was pissed, destroyed the room they were in. Though she did cheer when Nova said he'd be up for that booty call after she agreed to consider the Guardians.
Amusingly when Quill later joked about kissing her, she reacted with disgust to the thought.
The fact she spent most of the series as a duo with Adam Warlock really makes one wonder about how their gonna interact in Guardians 3.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."... also Mantis psychically manipulating them into being willing to join the team. That's a major part of how they were formed.
... I think of all the changes to the Guardians for the movie, Mantis was the best. Because comics Mantis was unfortunate as fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck. For all the flak the film version gets, the comic version was steeped in more racism and sexism which is... yikers.

How strong does Shang-Chi typically get with his anime martial arts? Like, Black Widow level? Captain America level? Iron Man level? Thor level? HULK level?!
I know DC's Karate Kid has ludicrous feats that approach Thor level.
