Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

It sounds like a shitpost but Swordsman really was an expert archer
He’s the one who taught Clint Barton everything he knew about archery
Clint invented several additional master courses for himself after but for a guy known for swording, Jacques was also a whiz with an arrow
Forever liveblogging the AvengersA small scrappy underdog like 60s marvel didn’t want to tangle with the corporate giant of 80s Nintendo
Forever liveblogging the AvengersShitposting aside, Swordsman, while integral to Clint's early days, didn't actually teach him archery. He taught him a lot of other things, but it was Trick Shot who taught Clint how to use a bow. Swordsman and Trick Shot worked at the same circus, where Clint and his brother also worked as basically apprentices to them.
Also, Barney Barton's real name is Charles. Barney, like "Bucky", is a nickname.
Anyway, my original point was that someone like Tony Dalton, who is currently crushing it on Better Call Saul as a charismatic criminal type is the perfect choice to play another charismatic criminal like Swordsman. It sounds like he'll probably be relegated to flashbacks, but you never know.
Shang Chi is usually a badass normal
Sometimes he has chi powers
Sometimes he’s a badass normal but still sorta has powers because martial arts training
Forever liveblogging the AvengersShang-Chi is like a martial artist out of a goddamn anime. We're talking catching bullets and tanking hits from godlike beings here. Every now and then his fuck-you levels of martial arts is explained as Ki Manipulation, and even then he straight-up schools Iron Fist without any of Danny's magical pizzazz.
Martial arts aren't normally superpowers, but Shang-Chi's martial arts basically are.

Alright, that sounds more like a superpower then just straight-up being good at fighting.
Like. Batman is a superhero but it's part of his brand that he doesn't have superpowers.
Trans rights are human rights. TV Tropes is not a place for bigotry, cruelty, or dickishness, no matter who or their position.

This isn't news, cause it was announced a while back but i just found out today that Tony Dalton is gonna play Swordsman in the Hawkeye series.
And that's darn near perfect casting.
