Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Their power-sets are pretty different. Namor can fly due to those little wings on his feet and he cannot communicate with sea life.
They do have pretty similar origin stories though, with both being the sons of an Atlantean mother of royal birth and a human father of humble origins.
That's why Namor has the surname Mc Kenzie — his father was an American sea captain Leonard Mc Kenzie.
One big difference is that Arthur was raised among humans by his father, while Namor was born and raised in Atlantis.

Disgusted, but not surprisedOn one hand, Namor in the comics is someone I really enjoy hating, but I also think an MCU Namor would be written very differently (i.e. without the aforementioned "condescension and horniness" that I love/despise so much).

Old Enough to Be Your Absurdly Youthful MotherI really hope MCU Namor stays an asshole. One of the big things that sets him apart from Aquaman is that his most consistent role isn't hero, it's bouncing back and forth between Anti-Hero and Anti-Villain.

Yeah, have to disagree. Other than his beard, Momoa resembles Namor way more than comics Aquaman.
I could've sworn Namor had the ability to talk to fish too, though not used nearly as much. Unless that got de-canonized at some point?

Not just talk to fish but borrow any fish power including swelling up like a puffer fish
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI doubt the rumor about him showing up in BP is true, but if he does indeed do so it’s almost certainly going to be as an asshole and a villain, no worries.
The big connection Namor has to Wakanda is that he once invaded it with enough brutality that T’Challa still holds a grudge.

Asshole Namor is ok with me, but probably not as big of an asshole as he is in the comics.
Funny about that thing with Wakanda, since he was possessed by the Phoenix Force at the time, so wasn't there some indication that it wasn't all him.
But then again, he's such an ass that I can imagine most either don't care, or don't see the difference.
But yeah, Asshole, but not complete asshole is best for Namor.
One Strip! One Strip!I have a feeling if they did decide to add Namor to the MCU his background as being born in and raised in Atlantis would probably not make it in,they'll probably change to say he's from Atlanta or something

have a listen and have a link to my discord serverI dunno, they kept Asgard, right? Why not Atlantis?
The concept of Namor, King of Atlanta is kinda funny to me though.
Old Enough to Be Your Absurdly Youthful Mother

While Namor is genuine asshole, he has some standards, since he was the one in Illuminati(no, not that one, this one) to be against to whole "shooting Hulk to the space"-plan. I wouldn't surprised, however, if during World War Hulk he was eating popcorn with Doom while watching Reed getting zapped.
