Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I'm putting White Tiger out there for consideration too. Less obscure than some mentioned but ticks diversity boxes of race and gender, is Street level/city based (so plenty of overlap with other characters) and powers that can be done on a budget.
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."
Who has the rights to White Tiger?
Also no reason they can't just go the Jaime Reyes route and skip right to the Affirmative-Action Legacy.

Pretty sure the real reason Rich isn't gonna get his time in the sun is because of last name.
I honestly figure it's more likely that Ryder gets Race Lifted to Hispanic than anything else.
Not that anyone hates Sam but of all the Affirmative-Action Legacy plays Marvel's done lately he's been one of their more notable misses.
Last time Feige brought up Nova he mentioned both Dick and Sam
. Also reportedly Feige is a big fan of Rider, so I doubt they'll exclude him.
My best guess is a Nova movie would feature both as protagonists.

I mentioned it before, but they should make Ryder the Peter B. Parker to Sam's Morales. Make it that Ryder was one of the first group to use the Nova suit, and was one of the few survivors of Thanos attack, becoming jaded and cynical. Then jada jada Sam gets elected to form part in the Nova Corps (as humans began to get especial attention after they were the ones to manage the unsnap and defeat Thanos) with Ryder as his unwilling mentor, and bam! New movie.

It could work.
Rich and Sam don't really have a mentor relationship in the comics (which seems to be a common thing for Marvel legacy characters), so seeing them interact more would be fun to see.
One Strip! One Strip!Marvel just doesn’t have that sidekick culture
Except Wolverine
Like with many things, Wolverine hogs all the good stuff to himself
Forever liveblogging the AvengersYeah, that's one of the big differences from DC, which puts a lot of stock in Passing the Torch.
Hawkeye will give us some of that, presumably.

They did had that dynamic in the last, short-lived, Nova run.
Probably best remembered for this.

Apparently because June 1st is Tom Holland's birthday.
On a side note, happy birthday, Tom Holland!
I assure you, I'm perfectly trustable personFor the most part it was recency bias + looking for patterns, i.e. "Marvel released the Shang-Chi trailer on Simu Liu's birthday, surely they'll do it again for Tom Holland!"
It had a little bit more weight because of rumors over the weekend that movie theaters were starting to get the trailer
and the general luck of Holland's birthday being the day after Memorial Day. So stars looked like they were aligning but unfortunately didn't turn out.
But surely we gotta get it sometime in the next month.
I used to think that Dick Rider's chances of getting an MCU greenlight were pretty much shot to hell by that name of his, but then Ralph Boehner happened. And the show even stopped to snicker about his name, just in case it was too subtle for you.
So, yeah, Dick Rider 2022.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub. That being said, he's gonna have to do something really impressive to get people to stop making jokes about his name.
Maybe have him rip Annilus' heart out like he apparently did in the comics?
Fucking up the king of an anti matter universe tends to get you some respect.
One Strip! One Strip! That might actually explain why writers seem unwilling to touch Sam, and he even seems like the Third Wheel among the Champions (a team he helped found).
I forgot about the shit Loeb said while involved in Marvel TV. I just figured Sam's troubles getting afloat was due to originating from that crappy Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon.
One Strip! One Strip!

My best guess, they're going for a latino solo lead.
YMMV how much obscure they're, but the most significant latino heroes Marvel haves all belong to Sony. Also worth nothing, all the most recognizable latino heroes are legacy heroes (the previously mentioned spiders, Nova, Ghost Rider), though I imagine their predecessors will be favored first.
Here's my wild card: Silverclaw
.
She has those distinct cultural elements that would make her comparable to Black Panther or Shang-Chi. Her origin has fantasy elements that blend her cultural heritage with the modern world. She has never had a ongoing series, so that's how obscure she is.
