Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Plans are reportedly changing for Captain America 4
(spoilers for Falcon and Winter Soldier in case anyone's not seen it yet)
My favorite part of that dream is that it didn't even steal the right villain. I can deal with Iron Man stealing a Spider-Man villain. At this point, it seems like the next logical step from Vulture and Mysterio.
But the Lizard clones Tony back to life? The Jackal was right there!
The Jackal Lizard: one of the most dangerous species of Australia.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."The poor, poor Jackal. All he does is clone people. Other villains get to have awesome powers, monster forms, or super-weapons. He's just in his lab, cooking up Gwen Stacy #347 and Spider-Man But Diabetic.
Don't take that away from him. It's all he has.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.The Jackal is a character that must be portrayed as an older man. If he appears in a movie, it's important to present him as a Gen X or Boomer.
This is because if he was a Millennial, he would just play The Sims and be content with that.

I know, right?! I thought that was weird, too, right after waking up. I think it's because of all the rumors of previous movie villains coming back in No Way Home, and the fact I really liked Amazing Spider-Man's Lizard.
I do wonder how the writers got the idea that Jackals = cloning. Or better yet, what a jackal even looks like. I'm pretty sure it's supposed to look like a dog-man, not a creepy green version of Beast.

The Jackal was originally intended to be a joke. More than a serious threat, he was supposed to represent angry Gwen fans who still demanded her being brought back. The Jackal was Gerry Conway's Take That! to fans who obsess over Gwen, hence he is designed as ugly and sleazy as possible.
Later writers didn't got the joke and build him as a serious threat.

Honestly, I really don't want them to bring back Robert Downey Jr for an Iron Man 4, but if it had to happen, having that Tony Stark be a clone would be one of the best ways they could handle it. Have his death in-universe be cheapened as a way to avoid having his death out-of-universe be cheapened, like how the Star Wars sequel trilogy avoided people criticizing Kylo Ren as being a Darth Vader wanna-be by literally just making that be what he is.
But still, I'd rather not bring him back at all.
