Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

This was a few pages back, but I find it funny that Tobias Drake simultaneously criticized the Eternals for not taking an active hand in human affairs (such as stopping the Holocaust) while also criticizing them for being colonialists. Like, either one on its own might be a valid criticism, but it's hard to see how they could be both.
The simplest reason for the Eternals not getting involved with any alien invasions or stuff like that is they simply didn't know about them until after the fact. They were off living wherever it is they live, doing whatever it is they do. Then, in the evenings, they go, "I guess I'll check what happened in the news today ... huh, an Asgardian fought some Chitauri in New York. Glad that turned out all right."
I'd guess half of them getting Snapped then Blipped back to life five years later is what makes them go, "Shit, maybe we should try getting ahead of this stuff."
Man it’s weird how obscure this property is compared to New Gods.
I could at least recognize Orion and Mister Miracle. Here I’m not sure who anyone is.
Also awwwww couldn’t someone get a cool mask or something? Well at least the lead woman has some kind of crest crown.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."![]()
True, but the same thing could have been said of half of the MCU.
Got G is the big example, but very few non comics readers knew who Captain Marvel was, or Scarlet Witch and Vision.
But the Eternals take it up to 11, these guys are obscure even among the obscure.
Like sure the Guardians weren’t high-tier but they did have a good run in the late 2000s during the Dn A era of Cosmic Marvel.
The Eternals rarely have gotten any sort of comics AT ALL.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."If the name behind The Eternals wasn't Jack Kirby, they probably wouldn't have gotten a movie.
I know there was even some speculation that this was going to Dueling Works the New Gods movie (RIP :( ), as they were announced within a month of each other.
The biggest strength of the MCU is that it Colbert Bumps everything it touches, turning even the more obscure corners of the Marvel Universe into household names. Eternals is simply one of the furthest extremes of such.
I like Richard Madden a lot as an actor, but while I'm only passingly familiar with the Eternals, Ikaris is enough of their leader that I wish he swapped actors with someone else to avert White Male Lead.
According to dear ol' Kevin
Gemma Chan's Sersi is the "lead", not Ikaris.
It seems that they based the Ishtar Gate in the trailer on the real one in the Pergamon from what I can tell.
Hugging a Vanillite will give you frostbite.Logically the way a character becomes unobscure is to have them appear in things.
Forever liveblogging the Avengers

A recurring problem I have with superhero films is that were always led to believe no superheroing of note happens between installments.
The Sam Remmi Spiderman trilogy is the worst for this. The fourth film would have resolved this as it was intended to open with a montage of different Spidey villains being taken down.
