Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Still haven't brought myself to watch Season 3 of the Runaways, because I just cannot get over knowing that the parents get away in the end, despite committing literal child murder. Numerous times.
Certified: 48.0% West Asian, 6.5% South Asian, 15.8% North/West European, 15.7% English, 7.4% Balkan, 6.6% ScandinavianOkay, I was channel surfing today and Captain America: Civil War was on. When I looked at the guide, the plot synopsis was weirdly phrased. I'm paraphrasing here, but it basically went "Black Widow and Hawkeye must pick a side when a feud between Captain America and Iron Man leaves the Avengers in turmoil".
From that, you'd expect Black Widow and Hawkeye to be the main characters and their conflict is the central arc of the film. I got nothing more to add to that, it just made me chuckle.

It's better than the description for Endgame. "The remaining Avengers— Thor, Black Widow, Captain America, and Bruce Banner— must figure out a way to bring back their vanquished allies for an epic showdown with Thanos— the evil demigod who decimated the planet and the universe." Just... christ.
The legend has returned. You could argue leaving out Tony and Scott, since at the start of the movie they aren't really Avengers anymore: Tony's retired, and Scott's off in the Quantum Realm. But then, that logic should exclude Thor, too.
And I'm okay with describing Thanos as an "evil demigod". He's definitely evil, and the alien/divinity division in the MCU has always been murky.

Actually, I could buy that as a decent description if you're trying not to spoil the second act of the film, if you remove Thor and replace him with Scott.
The initial premise of the movie is "Cap, Widow, Ant-Man try to reunite the remaining Avengers for a mad plan to reverse Thanos' victory," and then only once they have a "uniting the team" montage do the rest of the characters really start to factor in.

I was thinking that maybe they should look into adapting some of the New Universe titles. Maybe not the goofier ones like Kickers Inc., but IMO Star Brand, DP 7, Justice, and Psi-Force could all work as shows.
The original Starbrand has an interesting premise that wasn’t really ever executed well
What if some dude gets the most powerful power in the universe. Not a heroic dude and not an evil dude who’ll prove that absolute power corrupts absolutely. Just a mediocre dude who is mundanely awful
Forever liveblogging the AvengersThat's more or less the problem with the Runaways show. The parents are basically the co-protagonists. And by co-protagonists, I mean they're the real protagonists.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I don't think so. At the most I could see some returning show get the Broad Strokes treatment later on, but it's unlikely any non-Disney+ thing will be considered canon, honestly.
For all we know, they'll want to make their own works with the characters Netflix or others used at some point.

Wake me up at your own risk. The Disney+ shows have already shown a Darkhold separate from Agents of SHIELD's and a Power Broker separate from Jessica Jones's, so that's a pretty reasonable assumption.

Hopefully the next Runaways show will have people actually interested in, you know, the Runaways.
