Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

It really says something when Strucker's son had more screentime over on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and he was basically just a privileged rich-boy.
Should they have set up the Netflix shows such as Daredevil and others after Infinity War instead of after Avengers?
Using the Snap the reason why everything is messed up in New York not the Incident.

Place your past in a book burn the pages let them cook.I just finished the movie! I'll have a more coherent summary of my feelings after sleeping on it, especially since it's one in the morning.
Bbbbbuuuutttt I'll just leave off with a list of questions:
Why does nobody talk about the barrel of monkeys or human ladder rescue, if only for the novelty of it?
Why does nobody talk about the Mark 42 execution attempt on Killian, that was bloody sweet! Is that a Super Move or Finisher in a fighting game somewhere? It should be! "Iron Coffin", that's it's name.
Was this really going to be Tony's swan song?
Where's Thor? I'm pretty sure I saw Thor in a trailer for this movie.
...Why isn't the Mandarin Asian? Do I want to know the answer to this?

Trans rights are human rights. TV Tropes is not a place for bigotry, cruelty, or dickishness, no matter who or their position. The Mandarin was seen as too much of a yellow peril character in general and very specifically for trying to sell to the Chinese market.
Marvel tried to do a clever thing about how foreign boogymen are boons for the military industrial complex and left a lot of people dissatisfied with the execution. Add in some good old fashioned sexism from Perlmutter and we've got a Killian.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersBen Kingsley is Anglo-Indian and there was some
"all Asians are the same?" dismay when he was originally announced as the Mandarin.

You gotta remove everything after the file extension. It's a semi-new Fandom think that's been a thorn in Image Pickin's side for a while :-)

One of the most unfortunate parts of Iron Man 3 is that it has some of the character's, nay, the franchise's, most creative and thrilling action scenes like the House Party Protocol, but they are unfortunately overshadowed by the rest of the movie.
Fun fact: Tony in the last scene at the ruins of his home? CGI and a double. Robert Downey Jr was out recovering from a stunt injury.

This is probably the one instance where it was justified in-universe since the Mandarin isn't so much a person as he is a mish mash of foreign cultures meant to terrify Americans.

Well then he’d just be another magic-guy for Strange to face.
Mandarin functions as a magic vs technology opponent for Iron Man. Tony’s suits of incredible technological prowess vs Mandarin’s 100 distinct magical abilities.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."It worked as a misdirect within the film (Killian just grabbing like, the first vaguely ethnic actor he could find, haha Orientalism!) but out of universe this was shortly after Liam Neeson as Ra’s al Ghul so...you know.
Speak for yourself, I recently rewatched In the Mood for Love and right now Tony Leung is the handsomest man in the world.

AIM should at least be really easy to re-salvage given how different the MCU version was. Already kinda seeing it with the Ten Rings.
Hydra should be the same but goddamn I'm still reeling at Strucker getting absolutely wasted in AoU. Several of the MCU deaths really sting me bad and Strucker's one of the worser ones.
