Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Oof, yeah. Nothing much to say there, just oof.
But yeah, I remember her original run going out of its way to not have her use the full extent of her shapeshifting (something about overuse potentially Depowering her) which I always thought was a waste of potential. That sort of full-body shapeshifting isn't that common in the Marvel universe, especially not on the hero side, and she sticks to making her arms and legs grow to make them stronger? Mister Fantastic isn't that restrained.
If it's become more of a thing in her more current stuff that's neat.

That's taken. Beast Boy has called himself Changeling on occasion.
He spent a lot of money on publicists to try to get Changling to catch on and then it didn't and people kept calling him Beast Boy
Its kind of funny
Forever liveblogging the AvengersBy which I of course I mean 10 seconds of footage in a 3-minute trailer for the MCU in general. New titles for Black Panther and Captain Marvel sequels, so that's cool.
Hopefully this means that the full trailer is just round the corner.

Forever liveblogging the AvengersOh, that's good. That's very good.

The press has asked the actress if she’s excited about filming, but with a heavy sense of loss, how can anyone be excited? “People will ask me, ‘Are you excited to go back?’ Excitement isn’t the word. I feel like I’m in a very pensive and meditative state when it comes to Black Panther 2.”
Hate to say it, but I already brought it up a few pages ago.

There are release dates for everything in the video:
- Black Widow: July 9th, 2021
- Shang-Chi: September 3rd, 2021
- Eternals: November 5th, 2021
- Spider-Man No Way Home: December 17th, 2021
- Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness: March 25th, 2022
- Thor Love and Thunder: May 6th, 2022
- Black Panther Wakanda Forever: July 8th, 2022
- The Marvels: November 11th, 2022
- Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania: February 17th, 2023
- Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3: May 5th, 2023
People sort of glossed it over when I brought it up too, probably after reading a consensus of "yeah, a lot of us think not recasting T'Challa is a bigger slap to the face because the character is much more than one man, while some others of us are like no, it won't be the same without Boseman and besides, they already said no recast, so there."
And...yeah, maybe it's unhealthy to bring this up every other month, so carry on.

We didn't gloss over it, we talked about it for multiple pages. That article was what prompted that discussion.
Anyway, with the downright disgraceful way people treated Wandavision and Falcon and Winter Solder, if neither Spider-Man nor Dr. Strange actually gets into the multiverse proper, people are going to lose their minds.

Actually, what prompted the discussion was The Real Daytime discussing the pros and cons
of recasting the character in light of an online petition.
The article regarding Lupita (which I cited initially and windleopard cited via a Gizmodo article) came five days after that.
But yeah, we've discussed it long enough. Let's move on.
Yeah, we really need multiverse shenanigans.
Nah, I honestly have little-to-no interest in the multiverse at this point. I'm much more interested in fleshing out and building up the Marvel world we have now than jumping into the multiverse. Some crazy shit has gone down and a lot of our heroes are gone, we need to build back up and move on to the next generation.
It's more that I hate the way people hated on Wandavision for not introducing X-Men, the F4, the multiverse, or anything else like that. People are so goddamn impatient and set up false expectations, and then get mad when they don't pan out.
How are those same people going to react when all the news we've heard about Spider-Man is just a Casting Gag with no connection to the multiverse, and Dr. Strange is just all about exploring different dimensions within the current MCU, such as the Dream Dimension? They're gonna go absolutely apeshit, they're gonna lose their minds.

Didn't Alfred Molina recently confirm in an interview that he is playing the Spider-Man 2 Doc Ock?
Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonIIRC, the way he said it could be interpreted that the rough events of Spider-Man 2 are going to be retconned into the MCU, thus he's playing a version of Otto Octavius with a history very similar to the events of Spider-Man 2, but not necessarily the same character from across universes.

and
: What Pushover said.
What Molina said was that the story of Doc Ock in the movie takes up right after what was his final scene in the old Spider-Man 2. Whether it means that he's literally going to be snatched from the Raimi universe or whether the MCU is just going to retell that story is something he never made clear, he made comments that could support either, and iirc he didn't really seem to know or care about the difference.
It's Jamie Foxx who made a concrete statement about whether he's playing the exact same character (according to him, he's not).

She apparently shapeshifted into Rhodey to talk to Tony during the time in or around Civil War II which, oof.
