Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

“Those running the Thunderbolt program thought themselves our masters. But we are the Masters now”
Some quippy jerk: “Only Masters of Evil, Darth”
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI always imagined it'd be pretty easy to do chuck the Thunderbolts, The Dark Avengers and The Masters of Evil into a blender (but use only the Thunderbolts name given it's the more sonorous one).
The easier route is do a Thunderbolts/Dark Avengers mix: villains recruited/press ganged into becoming a new, government-sponsored Avengers (but again, called Thunderbolts). Some end up Becoming the Mask and turn heroic, some don't. The ones who don't assemble the Masters of Evil in the inevitable schism.

"All you Fascists bound to lose."It's part of why I bring up the Dark Avengers mix. Allows to give them a more MCU angle to the premise (with the group being a more direct Evil Counterpart to the Avengers and exploring the MCU's rich conttinuity and the current slate of being "in a post-Avengers world").
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Marvel does have an edge in that they already have introduced a fair number of villains across their numerous films, so viewers would already be familiar with them. DC had to introduce a whole bunch of them at once.
I'm not saying one approach is better than the other, but it does offer new opportunities to explore these villains in without bogging the film down in introductions.
Random thought - It's kind of too bad that Tony is no longer around, because if there is a Masters of Evil in the MCU, someone needs to make fun of the name by saying "Only a master of evil, Darth.
Edit - I missed Bocaj's post.

In term of a potential Thunderbolts roster, most people have pegged Ghost as well as (Falcon and Winter Soldier spoilers) Zemo and US Agent as likely members. Personally I'd like to see Songbird (the team's Ensemble Dark Horse) and Moonstone, though neither have appeared in the MCU thus far.
US Agent unfortunately had a Heel–Face Turn, so I feel like he won't be a part of this team-up, unless the writers figure out that was kinda a bad writing decision.
The legend has returned.
Thunderbolts are akin to the Suicide Squad of DC though, and an Anti-Hero like John Walker would fit perfectly at home with the kind of dirty work they do.
Sentry wasn't really making fun of Superman though in the same way Artume was making fun of Wonder Woman. Like, there's nothing inherently pointed about Superman's existence, at least no more than the any other Superman but X pastiches we've seen.

While Sentry did get mean-spirited I wouldn't say it was aimed at him being a Superman Substitute. It more had to do with him plunging straight into Scrappy territory from the get-go and writers taking the opportunity to keep kicking him while he was down.

I did not read the Hercules comics so I was unfamiliar with Alrune.
Looking her up, I'm conflicted on whether or not to consider her a mean-spirited Corrupted Character Copy, because while on one hand, she is very obviously modeled after Wonder Woman, she also seems to feel like an authentic/organic Greek mythology adjacent character.
In particular, the idea of using gorgons turning people to stone as a parallel to Diana's creation is clever, and while obviously the myths were quite sexist, thinking about how Artemis treated Acteon, Alrune seems like a believable character.
As a comparison, I think that Marvel is clever in having the Kree be a dark parody of Crystal Spires and Togas Kryptonian society. Or similarly, parodying Superman with Ethan Edwards by having him be sent to Earth as a baby so he'd eventually conquer it, and having some of the less positive personality aspects that would be expected of someone who grew up in small town America.
In contrast, I'd say that the Sentry and Hyperion (when evil) are more of the standard unstoppable (and personally abhorrent) evil takes that are common for Superman (cf. The Plutonian and Homelander).

I'm not sure the MCU would try featuring characters who are parodies of DCU characters, as it could be seen as too mean-spirited. It might work in a Deadpool film, though.
Whatever your favourite work is, there is a Vocal Minority that considers it the Worst. Whatever. Ever!.

RE:The Masters of Evil: Maybe merging the concept with the Thunderbolts?
