Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

He'll have Armor Wars, at least.

When is that slated for, already?
I think the hype of Bucky and Winter Soldier is basically comparable to Wandavision at first. Wandavision only really picked up steam A) once the completely bonkers hook of it being a sitcom Mind Screw was revealed B) once it actually released and got rave reviews.
The Falcon-Winter Soldier hook simply isn't as strong as of yet. If it's released and reveals itself as basically TWS but as a series I imagine it'll Win The Crowd more. But Wandavision simply had a very unique hook that's hard to replicate. Loki show is the closest to it with dimensional time weirdness.
Everybody's hype for Falcon-Winter Soldier would of course be increased if they brought back the HYDRA MVP.
We are both of us...Out of Time.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."I’m kinda wondering if Rand is going to get a do-over in Shang Chi’s side of the equation. At least for a Sequel Hook.
When Defenders was released one of my main commentaries was that despite all the shit the show and the audience gives to Danny Rand, The Defenders is largely a show about him being completely vindicated. He spends the entire series saying they have to come together and face The Hand head-on. Everybody else bickers and wastes precious time acting Wrong Genre Savvy about things, with Luke Cage, DD and JJ acting as if they're on their home show and concluding there must be some larger sociopolitical problem behind The Hand to tackle as if they're the villains from their home show (there isn't, they're just undead ninjas). And indeed, the show ends with...The Defenders facing The Hand head-on, exactly like Danny proposed from the first minute they met.
All the "Let's not face the Hand head-on due perceived larger sociopolitical contexts" does is lead to Stick's death.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."And Stick certainly proves himself the best character.
Him telling Jess to stop acting like a child is awesome because her constant comments about the whole problem is just downright childish.
Girl you live in a world with aliens, a super soldier from the 40’s, a God from Norse Mythology, & a giant green super strong guy. How is this anymore unbelievable?

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Correction: they're not undead ninjas. Undead ninjas were Nobu's thing. These fuckers were undead gangsters.
Look. Writers. I can understand wanting to make something more realistic. But you have zombies as the villains. There's no making that realistic. So. How about you embrace the goddamn weirdness and give us actual fucking zombie ninjas?!
Sorry. Still a bit annoyed by that.

When I saw the scene of Elektra shanking the big boss, I thought “Who the fuck are these people?”
I mean seriously for the overlords of an ancient organization of undead immortals, these supposed Big Bosss look incredibly underwhelming.
Like who the fuck is Sigourney Weaver supposed to be playing?

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Some random lady who happened upon dragon bones and apparently a few centuries worth of dumb luck. Sigh...
Well, at least we got Elektra as the Big Bad. If we couldn't have Nobu or the Beast, that's the most sensible option to me.

Re: Power Pack
Can an animated property even be in the MCU? I mean, the animated Marvel shows on Disney XD are all in a separate continuity from the MCU.
The animated stuff could very well have to do this, kind of like all those four-issue miniseries they did back in the 2000s where the Power Pack teamed up with a popular Marvel hero.
The ideal way to do it is live-action movies in the MCU and an animated TV series not in the MCU, kind of like they did with Guardians. Though I'd be down with a live-action Power Pack show, too.
I think The Hand is kind of the broken foundational stone of the whole franchise. I can't for the life of me understand why they thought undead ninjas (-mobsters) would bee the optimal crossover enemy for these characters. The Hand as established fit only really Danny's niche. DD's appeal has always been about elaborate organized crime, Luke Cage about much the same but with a racial edge, and JJ about more low-scale noir (usually lone wolf criminal serial killers and serial rapists and the like). Despite the Hand premiering in DD's comics they always kinda feel like a Out-of-Genre Experience from the noir vigilante stylings and DD himself always feels a bit out of his element.
The really obvious route, particularly considering the way every other netflix villain was praised, was just to have the villains crossover the same way the heroes do. Something like Fisk, Mariah and Madame Gao making a alliance between their criminal outifts to take over New York City and hiring Simpson as a mercenary, tying in a villain from each show (or do the reverse and the plot be about a Mob War between Fisk, Mariah and Gao with Simpson in the midst with the Defenders trying to save innocents from the crossfire). The "but how do spend screentime between them" doesn't even apply here because it's a hour-long tv show. They have time.

Madame Hydra was being used over in Shield, and they probably want to keep Ravioli up their sleeves for if AIM comes back to prominence.
I have this pet peeve about Canon Foreigners, especially as Big Bads. Anyone else? Like, the MCU, both movies and shows, have been pretty good with using villains from the source material (except for certain cases, which I just handwave with the character's Dragon-in-Chief or as an organization like HYDRA or Roxxon as a whole), which is partially why I like it so much. Gives me something for my sort-of-but-not-really OCD brain to organize.

What If? is animated.
Or they could have just used Madame Gao on her own, maybe with a few other villains allying with/against her, and scaled the Hand back down a little to... I don't know. I feel like they fit in that "epic" enough scope to warrant a crossover, but they tried way too hard, and Fisk probably would have been better. The earthquake dragon bone stuff was stupid, Alexandra was stupid, and the lack of zombie ninjas was stupid.

I think giving them a single unifying enemy is a better idea than an ensemble of disparate villains, but yeah, the Hand isn't a good fit.
If the shows were to miraculously resume where they left off, I think Mister Fear (Larry Cranston) with The Enforcers as his, uh, enforcers would work. Maybe recontextualize him as a drug kingpin, and have him make all four of 'em live out terrifying hallucinations with his experimental drugs.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!![]()
At least it proves that animated series can be part of the MCU.

Whatever your favourite work is, there is a Vocal Minority that considers it the Worst. Whatever. Ever!.
