Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I don't know whether to feel happy that we're getting rid of all this trash or angry that all these actors keep turning out to be trash.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"![]()
I feel both emotions at the same time.
I get disappointed when actors who I liked turn out to be trash but also super angry when they are of the worst kind

x4: Speaking of Fandral...
Someone spotted Luke Hemsworth and MATT DAMON on the set of
Thor: Love and Thunder.
They were Actor Thor and Actor Loki in Thor: Ragnarok.
It feels weird to me that we're talking about recasting since, prior to the official announcement that they wouldn't recast T'Challa, literally not a single person in this thread proposed the idea of recasting him. No-one did. Every single person just took it as a given that the MCU would have to kill off the character and move on without him. Talk of re-casting Boseman only started after they announced that they wouldn't be doing it.
I mean, I kept thinking about it, but I thought everyone would get mad at me and think of me as that guy.
Rather curious that we're only talking about recasting when they said no recasting. I want to say it sounds like some case of reverse psychology or a variation of the Streisand Effect, but neither case sounds accurate...
I'm so disappointed in TI.
I remember the song Rubberbandman. It's the only song of his I know, but I liked it.
Now he's taken that from me. Someone tell the universe to stop ruining things I like!
One Strip! One Strip!I know I've been a proponent for him not being recast since before the announcement, so not every single person, no.
Furthermore...
I'm not sure why that's important at all to the points being argued over in the first place. Are you trying to posit that the things being said are less relevant because this is taking place after the announcement?

There was talk of Idris Elba on the last page. I don't know if that was sarcastic or not but he already had a very notable run as Heimdall in the MCU, so I think he's out.
You can only write so much in your forum signature. It's not fair that I want to write a piece of writing yet it will cut me off in the midI could buy Elba coming back to lend his voice, rather than his face, to a character. Like if another cosmic or demonic characters shows up without a face.
Idris Elba for Shuma Gorath, maybe?
And again, not only is that incorrect, I'm not sure why it would matter even if it were true.

I'm against recasting him for the most part, though I'm not as vocal about it. The Time-Shifted Actor is just a hypothetical loophole scenario and the least unpalatable way to go about it IMO if they change their minds.
I honestly can't recall if I ever brought up the issue, I know at the time of Boseman's death I felt it was in poor taste and maybe I never did in the first place.
But I've always been pro recasting T'Challa.
I had no issue with the changing Banners, nor Rodey, nor the Fandralls.
And to me it makes no sense to just not do it for a big character like T'Challa.
His story had just began. It's a waste no matter which angle I look at it.
If I could lighten the mood here...
We have another actor Asgardian!
More Love and Thunder set photos are popping up and these show an Actress Hela...as played by Melissa McCarthy!

Cool.
Also, I happened to watch the previous "Asgardian actor scene" on Youtube yesterday and I find it really clever. Because it's obviously funny with Bad "Bad Acting", but I think it's pretty revealing about Loki's character, because even though it's pro-Loki propaganda in-universe, Loki seems to still be the bad guy of the story, albeit a Tragic Hero who made a heroic sacrifice.
And it also explicitly acknowledges Loki's Frost Giant background, in a way that Loki probably wouldn't otherwise admit to (and which the movies seemed to have forgotten about until then).
Also, I think there's a whole essay to be written about how these kind of "Bad "Bad Acting" in-universe productions" (cf. The Ember Island Players in Avatar The Last Airbender, and "The Bloody Hand" in Game of Thrones) reflect cultural influence from Shakespeare's uses of the play-within-a-play, as well as the propagandistic nature of "history plays".

Marvel drops T.I from Ant-Man 3 after multiple allegations of sexual assault.
To clarify here, T.I is the african-american thief co-hort of Scott Lang (Dave), one of the "Three Wombats" (alongside Michael Peña's Luis and David Dastmalchian's Kurt, the Russian One).
Seems like Marvel has had its first real brush with Me Too! (though there are allegations against Michael Douglas as well).
