Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I don't even think he's actually that friendly with Doom. It's just Doom has a vanishingly small number of people who are actual kings by their own hand feudal aristocrats who acknowledge him as, yes, the rightful king of Latveria (because he too it).
He's like 80% of a peer to Doom, which is a vanishingly small number that includes, basically, Doctor Strange, Loki, and Kang.
They made him racist so T'Challa sadly doesn't count.
Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.Namor's just got this weird Blue-and-Orange Morality that lets him consider both someone like Doom and someone like Rogers worthy of respect.
Still, whether he's a hero or a villain in the story, one thing is always consistent - he's an asshole.
Disgusted, but not surprisedNamor's "morality" is fundamentally Might Makes Right. If you are powerful enough and have the will to do what you think is the right thing, then it IS the right thing.
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."He did ally with Thanos and the Black Order during the Incursions cause they provided a "simpler stronger" method.
Even Doom called out what an ignoramous he was during the whole shebang.
Credit to Reed, he wouldn't free and trust fucking Thanos. Namor did and this lead to entire worlds being painfully genocided as Thanos and crew made him the team clown.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Namor lost all sympathy from me when he drowned Wakanda.
And yes, it was under the influence of the Phoenix, but in stark contrast to all the other Phoenix 5, he never even once apologized or expressed regret for it. Quite the contrary, he kept rubbing it in to T'Challa with a smug smile on his face. And he later even sicced Thanos' forces on Wakanda again.

He'll hit on married women and sleep with crab people ("talk like crab, kiss like people"), but he flatly turned down Hope because she's a child.

Disgusted, but not surprisedNamor is probably the worst of the "Hero" Kings.
T'Challa hates being king and Black Bolt is capable of sympathy, remorse, and guilt (his 2017 solo title showcasing a great deal of vulnerable and tender moments from the normally stoic figure), but Namor overall tends to be just a gigantic outright imperialist remorseless douchebag who treats everyone he meets like shit and harasses any women who unfortunately catches his attention like Sue.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."
Assholes can be surprisingly popular.
Plus, his reputation wasn't ruined by Superfriends.
God, what a dumpster fire that one was.
There's an older comic where Doom makes racially insensitive comments about African people so Hudlin did have precedent to fall back on.
He does add variety to the community.
He's a hero Heel in the sense. His assholishness lends good interactions with other characters as they have to deal with him.
Like out of the entire Illuminati, only Namor would be willing to betry them and align with Thanos. Even Beast isn't that much of a monster and he's already pretty monstrous.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Oh, Comics Beast turned into a gigantic douchebag. And a hypocrite to boot.
I can't list his deeds right now, somebody else might, but just for perspective, he received an entire issue of a "The Reason You Suck" Speech from none other than The Watcher himself.
And even his own past self called him out.

It seems to me the MCU has stayed mostly clear of that for now at least (apart from Endgame!Hawkeye, maybe).
Whatever your favourite work is, there is a Vocal Minority that considers it the Worst. Whatever. Ever!.In that particular instance, Uatu called him out on his spectacularly dangerous and irresponsible decision to bring back younger versions of the original five X-Men (including himself) from the past to guilt-trip Cyclops, only to realize he didn't actually know how to send them back.
Uatu capped it off by saying that Hank disgusts him.
And believe it or not, Hank's only gotten worse since.
Disgusted, but not surprised

Surfer definitely is.
