Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I remember that bugged me when I first saw the original Avengers film. You think they'd mention Rhodey at some point in the movie, considering there weren't a whole lot of active heroes at the time. That's one thing I appreciated about Age of Ultron was that it had him be involved during the climax (granted, not as much as he should have). It did suck Sam got the shaft in that film, but at least he actually showed up at some point.
Although there was a tie-in comic that showed Rhodey was busy fighting the Ten Rings at the time and showed up in New York just as the Avengers were busy having shawarma.

It's worth noting, the teamup in The Avengers wasn't initially meant to be a gathering of superheroes. Bruce and Tony were recruited for their scientific expertise, Steve was there pretty much as a "show the new guy around" tour, and Thor burst in uninvited.

From what I remember, that most of the nominees were just aboard for scientific or security purposes was Nick Fury's cover story to the World Security Council, since they considered the Avengers program scrapped, but it was pretty clear Fury's real intent was assembling the Avengers in case the situation went south.
I like the tankier look. It's fitting for a, well, war machine, and makes it less of a Palette Swap of Iron Man's armor. Tony being on the cutting edge of tech and caring a lot more about style makes sense to have a slimmer, flashier armor.

Ezekiel Stane and Sasha Hammer seem like very solid ideas honestly.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."I may have mentioned this previously, but I recently learned about the Detroit Steel character/armor, and that would be perfect for Hammer or a proxy to wear.
Also, while I don't really have an idea for a design, other than incorporating the kind of nanotech that Tony uses, but I'm kind of iffy on the whole idea that War Machine armors are/should be clunkier and generally Boring, but Practical (I might say "crappy") compared to Tony's.

It was weird in Phase One that Rhodey was seemingly never approached about being on the Avengers. Tony might've had the edge on him in terms of inventive prowess, but Tony's also volatile and for a time that got him disqualified, while Rhodey is far less of a loose cannon.
