Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

Zemo's purple mask is finally making its MCU debut.

It's magenta.

Man Anthony Mackie must be nutting himself at finally being able to wear red and white.

Now I'm remembering that "Real World: Superheroes" sketch from Robot Chicken and how Sam complained about how his outfit sucked. This was years before he ever made it into the MCU, but I just find it funny how Mackie himself voiced issues over the films attempts at less "comic book" design for his costume.

I think his movie costumes were based on Ultimate Falcon, since the Ultimate universe could be pretty joyless in the costuming department over on the Serious Superheroes Military Ultimates side of things.

Also why they dropped his more fantastical power of being able to talk to birds.

What'll he do? Tell every pigeon in the New York area to poop Bucky?

Ultimate Falcon wasn't even wearing a costume, it was just military gear.

At least Ultimate Hawkeye had that red v thing on his chest. Falcon dressed completely normally.

[up][up][up]Jesus, don't make me imagine that. I just pictured that one video of the guy talking about the row of parked cars covered in bird shit, except that amount of shit times 10 and showering over Bucky like the worst rainstorm ever.

In that series, I'm sure our heroes will team up with one Big Bad to defeat the other Big Bad.

I mean, Walker's really just an Anti-Hero. He'll definitely fight Falcon (and probably win the first time) but he's ultimately a good guy and will most likely be used that way.

Unless they composite him with Burnside, of course.

I've been assuming from the start that he's either the Big Bad or The Dragon.

I mean, as an antagonist he's basically The Dragon to the Big Bad that is the United States government, yeah.

In the original comic storyline, Walker eventually cracked from the pressure of being Captain America (as well as his parents being murdered) and went insane, leading to Steve having to take him down in a final fight and then reclaiming the mantle. I'm strongly guessing that'll be the case here, just with Sam being the one who stops him and takes the shield.

There was a little more to it than that (Walker was actually the one who convinced Steve to be Captain America again) but yeah.

Making Walker just an out and out bad guy would be misusing him, the way I see it.

I once saw a comment that said if Aquaman, Ant-Man and Falcon teamed up, no criminal on Earth could hide from them.

There's certainly no way a criminal hiding out in a city would be able to hide from them. Pigeons and insects are everywhere.

It still seems strange to me that Zemo is going to make the jump from "Circumstantial Villain" to Supervillain.

I am very curious what his plan is now considering all he wanted was to just break apart the Avengers and then die.
