Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I agree with no Wolverine, maybe no Mags.
I would like to see a Xmen incarnation do what no other series, even the different animated series have done, and start at the beginning with the original five.
And that's why I want to see them do Jean. Girl deserves to have her story told properly. Maybe just leave out the Phoenix. That's what's been a Plot Tumor even in the comics.
But yeah, Cyclops, Jean, Bobby, Hank and Warren. OG X-men right from the get go.
It actually would be different. Though there's the problem that you'd need Charles in some way, unless you have someone else take his place somehow.
....maybe Moira.
Edit: I get it. People are sick of those guys. I still want it, but hearing people bring up all the characters who have yet to be given time to shine, I do kinda get why you'd want to cut even Jean out.

One Strip! One Strip!Which is crazy cause....like, we were just talking in this thread about how 90's Animated Series Storm knew how to talk big.
They really did waste one of the most powerful and iconic members of the team.
One Strip! One Strip! That, I very much agree with.
My older brother is a huge Cyclops fan, and always has been, and I think he'd love to see old Slim getting his due.
One Strip! One Strip!I'm not sure general audiences are sick of Wolverine, certainly not more than they might have been of, say, Spider-Man by the time Tom Holland came around while two other Spider-Men were still warm on the public awareness. That's a complain I hear often from comics fans, but not from outsiders to the community, who may not be as burned off the character.
I mean. By the time they finally get to make another X-Men movie there'll have passed at least half a decade since Logan, and the mutants haven't had an animated series for over a full decade now. They were even barely present in the recent MC animated shows, and completely absent from recent live action not counting New Mutants (which nobody watched).
I mean, even as somebody who thinks Jackman was a miscast, was sick of his over-exposure in the movies and isn't the biggest Wolverine fan in general, I have to say Logan is by far the best X-related movie and a masterpiece, period.
It's the same kind of genre-busting movie that The Dark Knight was.

I've said this already, and if general audiences aren't as adverse to it as the tropers above have said, and they write a good enough story, then maybe it could work.
Logan is gonna be difficult however.
One Strip! One Strip!Personally, even as someone not super familiar with the X-Men, they have so many characters with which to build movies out of that you could conceivably focus on characters that were minor in the Fox ones or did not appear at all and it would still work. That being said, I do expect Wolverine at least to show up as a supporting character and probably references to, if not cameos from, Charles and Erik.
For the first movie lineup, I'd say original 5, mayyyyyyyybe with Storm and Nightcrawler? And if you can't fit seven X-Men and Professor X, replace Beast with Storm and Nightcrawler?
I don't know, maybe it's because I'm not a huge X-Men fan, but I don't necessarily see the Cyclops/Iceman/Jean Grey/Angel/Beast lineup as any more crucial than the Iron Man/Ant-Man/Hulk/Thor/Wasp Avengers starting lineup. And if any of the O5 got a little too much focus in the Fox movies, it was definitely Beast.
I'd be down with Jean Grey if they just didn't do the Dark Phoenix saga again. Magneto, Professor X and Mystique they should hold off on for a while at the very least. Wolverine on the other hand I really never want to see again. I mean we are at some point but fucking hell the Fox movies didn't really like let alone know what to do with most characters that weren't him.
Self-serious autistic trans gal who loves rock/metal and animation with all her heart. (she/her)The Angel is a difficult sell for a live action universe. His power is... he flies. There's only so much you can do with that, which is why he's always remained a secondary and... that's okay, not every character should be a headliner. All the same my gut instinct would be removing him from the starting lineup and replace him with Storm, who also flies, is an extra female, and adds diversity.
If the 'X-Men' name is really that troublesome now replace it with X-Factor, which always sounded cooler IMHO and can apply to the original X-Men, without the need for the paramilitary angle usually associated with X-Force.
Make Wolverine start in a Weapon X movie instead; rather than a solo adventure or him shoving the other X-Men off the stage in their own film, make the whole story about him and, I don't know, Maverick, Deathstrike, Sabretooth and Omega Red until they all turn on each other for the finale.
Also, at some point, they'd better use Sauron sooner than later because there's no bigger omission from the X-Men movie canon so far than the pterodactyl hypnotic man in a loincloth fighting a Tarzan Expy for control of a dinosaur filled land in the Antarctic, and who named himself because he literally was that much of a Tolkien nerd.

Have him as archangel. His powers are cooler. Feather Flechettes
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."I always think of how they tried to make Angel work in the first X-Men cover.
They gave him a bazooka.
The answer is clearly More Dakka.

Also Nightcrawler, Colossus (assuming he won't stay over with Deadpool), Sunspot, the one who shoots fireworks, Cannonball, there's a lot of mutants they could use, why stick to the ones everyone already knows?
