Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

(*dopey voice*) MATT DAMON! (*dopey voice off*)
...has landed in Sydney for Thor: Love and Thunder.

My first reaction was "What? Why?", but it actually makes a lot of sense to show that actor!Loki and some of the other Asgardian mauve shirts survived between meeting Thanos and the present.
I don't know. By the time of Ragnarok, Thor seemed to have gotten better at seeing through Loki's tricks.
I could totally picture him punching Fake Loki in the face just to make sure he's not real Loki....
....and then taking a swing at Fake Thor, because nobody would expect Loki to disguise himself as Thor.
If the Matt Damon thing turns out to be true, and his role goes beyond being a simple cameo, it would be a surprising example of Ascended Extra.
I mean... Loki had to have visited Earth to drop Odin off at the retirement home. He could have taken Matt Damon to Asgard during that time period.
Holy shit, does this mean people thought Matt Damon had mysteriously disappeared sometime in 2013?
I've never listened to the directors' commentary, so I'm not positive this is deliberate, but I think it's a Casting Gag because Matt Damon also played a character called Loki in Dogma.
As a side note, that's a pretty interesting illustration of Everyone Hates Hades and henotheism, because the Dogma!Loki is described as being the former Angel of Death and he's a merciless punisher of human evil. Which pretty much means that he's a surprisingly accurate rendition of Samael
.

Deadline cements Matt Damon's presence.
Nope. Can't resist doing it again:
So I'm also hearing rumours that a certain African Goddess will be appearing in Love and Thunder as well.
I mean, that's certainly another way to bring the thunder.
The rumor seems to trace to a single tweet
and I’ve found nothing from any official source, including not the alleged Hollywood Reporter citation.
Though Thor wasn't a regular part of the line-up for that comic. He just showed up in an issue where he was revealed to be dating Storm.
There was also an X-men / Alpha Flight crossover where they were taken to Asgard and Storm I believe got her hands on (as in Loki gave to her) a hammer similar to Mjolnir.
I think it's also how Danielle Monster became a Valkyrie as well.
One Strip! One Strip!

This is a terrible page starter...
so... I chose to take the Strucker Watches ad in Wandavision literally and assume that the dude has somehow returned from his ignoble offscreen death to be the guy watching the show. I don't know how close I might be.
