Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I also caught Natasha in that Loki trailer, or at least someone who looks a lot like her. My brother pointed her out though. I missed her the first time I watched it.
One Strip! One Strip! And Mac is officially confirmed
.
Xochitl seems fairly young for the part but I’m looking forward to her and hope she gets plenty of spotlight and showcase for all her powers.

Cool that she was cast. I did see on Twitter a decent amount of complaining that the actress is not Afro-Latina (Afro-Brazilian?), which seems a decent point.
Also, someone posting about that and also posting how the "real" Kate and America would beat up Zionists. Not sure what that is about.

She’s arguably (if loosely) coded Puerto Rican, which has a fair (but not guaranteed) chance of being part Black, but her look tended to flip-flop wildly in the comics from artist to artist. And I say loosely because she’s been explicit about representing all Latinx peoples of every nation.

All America Comix isn't canon to Marvel (and it's one of the most mean-spirited things I've read and its Spanish is atrocious). I expect Marvel will probably use something closer to America's canon origin, which having been born in a utopian dimension and leaving to protect all other worlds.
Since her powers are all about jumping between dimensions, Doctor Strange 2 is truly going to be a Multiverse, it seems.

I’ve read more mean spirited things, but I think that speaks to those authors.
At least the alternate dimension thing won’t feel so...sudden, but I think personally, given how wide the variety is of Latino origins, I would rather she was from somewhere specific and then we add to other specific places, then trying to be representative of everyone (which given the differences feels like too broad a generalization). From there it’s a matter of seeing what the writers do with her.
Hey, maybe they'll acknowledge her appearances in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D..
... Oh, I made myself sad...
I've wondered about that, but for obvious reasons that can only ever be temporary. We shall see.
But since America this time appears to be significantly younger than Kate Bishop, I wonder if she'll get shipped with someone else. Maybe one of the Champions? Or adapting one of her girlfriends from the comics?

That also crossed my mind and is a definite concern. I guess it's possible that there will be a recast/aged up America by the time Young Avengers comes around, but yeah, having her a lot younger than Kate or Cassie suggests Hide Your Gays might be in effect.

So it looks like the first MCU releases we have upcoming are Wandavision (mid-Jan), the Falcon & the Winter Soldier (Mar) and then Loki (May or June).
The latter two are the shows I’ve been anticipating the most, so this should be fun!
