Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Other reactions to the new announcements:
- WandaVision and Falcon and Winter Soldier: Already was super excited for these, and its great to actually have release dates for them. In a Covidless world, we'd've had them by now, but, hey, 2020's a bitch.
- Loki and Ms. Marvel: Again, was already hyped for these, but it's cool to actually see something from them.
- What If?: I'm liking how the animation looks (sorta reminds me of RWBY in a way), and the depiction of Uatu as a mysterious starry-looking figure is neat. Also Jeffery Wright's badass voice is going to be awesome to hear narration in.
- Secret Invasion: Would've honestly liked to see this as a multi-movie arc, but I'm game for a TV show. I'm guessing this was the Nick Fury show that was rumored a while back.
- Armor Wars: Figured Rhodey would get a show eventually, and based on one of my favorite Iron Man arcs. Neat!
- Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania: First thought: title sounds like a wrestling movie. So Kang really is the bad guy, huh? Gotta admit, I'd thought they'd save him for Avengers 5 or something.
- Thor: Love and Thunder: Bale's playing Gorr? I Knew It!
- Fantastic Four: Didn't expect to get confirmation on them this early, but I've gotta say: 'bout fucking time! And Jon Watts is helming it? Does that mean we finally get to see the famous Spidey/Torch bromance on-screen? No matter what, this'll definitely be better than anything Fox ever tried with them, at least.
- Ironheart: Okay, honestly never been a fan of the character (I find her way too insufferable and annoying), but I'll keep an open mind here. I trust Feige and Co.
- Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special: Why the hell not? If Gunn's involved, this'll definitely be special.
- Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness: I figured America Chavez would be involved in this. And apparently it'll be connected to Spider-Man 3, which is apparently just Maguire vs Garfield vs Holland? That's pretty cool.
Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonAntman and the Wasp: By the quantumania, for the quantumania.
Self-serious autistic trans gal who loves rock/metal and animation with all her heart. (she/her)Couple other thoughts:
The sizzle real for Ms. Marvel made me smile, and it was nice seeing recreations of scenes from the comic.
I didn't realize initially that an actress was already cast for Riri. That's cool.
The Rhodey show sounds cool too and I like the suggestion of someone on Reddit that it might reintroduce Justin Hammer, and be a potential lead-in to Thunderbolts.
Also, I think it works well to do "classic Tony Stark stories" with other characters (i.e. Howard Stark in Agent Carter), not just because Tony is deceased at this point but also because he operated at a larger scale than necessarily fits those stories. And it's not just a Tony Stark thing. Peggy Carter herself did classic Nick Fury kind of stories, because she's operating at a scale that is more akin to classic Fury (Tuxedo and Martini tv show spy) than the Fury of the MCU (head of an N.G.O. Superpower).
Lastly, I love the buddy cop dynamic in the Falcon and Winter Soldier show.

x2 It's my understanding that other writers have done better by Riri than Bendis did, so it's not like they'll be working from scratch.
Personally, I'm most excited for What If and Wanda Vision, since those seem to be the projects that'll be more experimental and out there. Will definitely watch the rest, though.
Dominuque Thorne
. Haven't seen her in anything, but I trust Marvel's casting.
The post Bendis Ironheart series was pretty okay
I didn’t read the Bendis one so I can’t compare it though
Forever liveblogging the AvengersIt's so weird that we're getting Armour Wars without Tony....but I guess it does work.
Keeping his tech from being misused was literally the reason he became Iron Man. And with him dead, it's only natural that tight grip he kept on it would loosen. So Rhodey heads out to keep that positive part of Tony's legacy—his desire to keep his tech from being made into weapons again—alive.
I like it. It keeps the spirit of the original arc while still going to new places.
One Strip! One Strip! To be fair to the character, she was created by post-2010 Bendis where I think he wrote her as really arrogant but also without impeding flaws.
Rarely anything he has made this decade is good. The man has gotten way sloppy.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."He insulted damn near everyone constantly actually
So in that light he has an impressively low ratio of petty offenses driving people into supervillainy
Forever liveblogging the Avengers
x5 Thinking on it:
- Iron Man 1 has Obadiah Stane/Iron Monger
- Iron Man 2 has Ivan Vanko/Whiplash/Crimson Dynamo-analogue and Justin Hammer
- Iron Man 3 has the (false) Mandarin, AIM and Extremis enhanciles
- Ant-Man and the Wasp has (a very different version of) Ghost
Off the top of my head, there's Ultimo (a giant robot), Ezekiel Stane (Obadiah's son) and the true Mandarin. Probably some others I'm not familiar with.

Just about to say the same thing. Also, I remember Blizzard was on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., don't know who else might have been.

Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonLengthy list here, including some that have already appeared/been mentioned
.
I wasn't familiar with the name before, but there's a Detroit Steel Armor
associated with Justin(e) Hammer that's basically an "America Fuck Yeah" (evil) counterpart to Iron Man the same way that US Agent and Burnside!Cap are to Captain America.
Whether the operator of the suit was Hammer himself (or herself) or a semi-sympathetic Unwitting Pawn, that would be a good antagonist to Rhoadey and/or Riri.

Huh, you're right. Maybe we got the causality of the "people becoming supervillains after Tony Stark insulted them" thing backwards. Maybe an individual Tony Stark insult isn't more likely to spark supervillainy, maybe it's just that Tony Stark has offended enough people that it was statistically likely for a few of them to become supervillains.

Reminder they can always bring in Casper Cole, the 2nd Black Panther.
