Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

IF Charlie Cox comes back, I wonder what it will be like to run Daredevil in canon.

  • Option 1: The entire series is completely canon.
  • Option 2: The series is canon but with Broad Strokes.
  • Option 3: It will not be confirmed if it is canon or not.
  • Option 4: The series is not canon.
  • Option 5: The series is not canon, but some events happened the same as in the series.

Hmm

I am curious how Wandavision (of all things) "will help clarify a lot of things in how all these things will be possible".

So, let's hang an anchor from the sun... also my Tumblr

Yeah, jeez. I was taking things case by case earlier, but with that Goblin bit I now officially disbelieve everything.

A few days after the news breaks about Molina, suddenly all these smaller news outlets are getting exclusive info about all the crossovers fans want to see being in the film all at once? Gimme a break.

Marvel needs to release a trailer of something for this film asap. It's just getting out of hand.

What is this, live-action Spider-Verse?

I mean, if all or even most of these rumoured inclusions are true, there simply isn't time for all of them to get reasonable attention. Some just being cameos / glorified cameos is kinda a given.

Which just makes it even more suspect. Why bother putting all these actors - some of whom are very expensive - and highly requested crossovers in the film if you're not even going to use them?

Studios don't really do that sort of thing with films, seeing as they're very expensive.

Not gonna lie, if Dafoe and De Hann have a scene together where they just have no idea whatsoever who the other is supposed to be, that'll be worth the price of admission on its own.

Now I'm remembering a tweet years ago from the actor who played the bank teller in Spider-Man 2 joking he'd return in the MCU.

Given how many Community actors have cameo'd in the MCU, I could see Joel McHale making a cameo yeah.

Years ago when Spider-Man 3 was coming out he made a fake TV spot where the douchey bank guy returned as the movie's fourth villain.

Not directly on the Spider-Man topic, but he's my fancast for either Boomerang or Eric O'Grady.

I'd kinda want for them to cast Jai Courtney as Boomerang.

And Cillian Murphy as the Marvel Scarecrow while we're at it.

Just for the joke of him playing two Boomerangs? There's a Marvel Scarecrow?...

He seems like an extremely blatant ripoff of the batman one... I thought Stan Lee was more original than that (Apparently he was one of the co-creators). Still love Stan though.

I imagine it's just inevitable that they'd ultimately both have some sort of fear gimmick.

Actually a villain that acts as a literal scarecrow (scares people away from say, banks so he can rob them) instead of scaring people to death would be funny.
