Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

So Dusnt is a lock as Mary Jane, but Toby's still in negotiations? Bit weird, if he says no, she may have to take his place as Spinerrett as something.
I’m wary of the multiverse theorists mostly because they remind me a lot of what the Star Wars fanbase looked like before TLJ - the same staunch expectation of a theory that when looking straight never seemed likely, amped up by the media and misinformation - and I’d rather not see the MCU get the same explosive backlash if fans don’t see what they’ve collectively decided they’re going to.

For instance, Marvel already confirmed months ago that Garfield and Tobey weren’t actually in the film.

The Collider article doesn't actually confirm
that any of the old actors besides Molina are back. It's just speculation.
Even if they don't do with Dunst specifically, it does try to say for sure that Tobey and Garfield are back and that the film is definitely going to be Spider-Verse.
Either way, it's clearly baiting.
Cope harder pal.
Assuming someone is lying with no evidence is even less reasonable than assuming they're telling the truth with no corroboration.
"Well, they said this. But they're a corporation, so they're probably lying. Ergo, my fan theory is 100% correct" doesn't make an awful lot of sense as anything other than a justification to keep clinging onto a fan theory.
Especially when the people claiming to have this insider information that the studios don't want you do know have been contradicted multiple times on a vast variety of subjects. The people claiming that Tobey and Garfield were in, especially, were websites well known for spreading false clickbait rumors under the bracket of "news."
Even given that a broken clock is right twice a day, you should never trust We Got It Covered or its corroborators more than the people telling you that they're full of shit.

My own theory is that Peter will end up visiting the various alternate spider-verses rather than the characters appearing in the "main" Sony/MCU (due to shenanigans about his secret I.D.). That way it's not a complete redoing of the animated Spider-verse movie.
That said, if they are somehow bringing back the various versions of cinematic Spider-villains, just hand Willem Dafoe a blank cheque if that's what it takes to get him back as the Green Goblin.
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."I want them to save Goblin for an adaptation of Dark Reign. It would let them use Norman as a Big Bad without doing the Goblin plot we all know at this point.
A Dark reign storyline would require synergy with the MCU, given that Norman becomes president, and well after this third film we might not be getting much of that.

That's actually not a bad idea. Maybe save the multiverse jumping for the third act when all the crud hits the fan?
I mean, Doc Ock and Electro had crazy ass deaths that could get retconned into getting dimensionally-warped. Goblin died from a glider to the ribcage.
My money's still on rebooted MCU selves.
Alright, news time. Okay, Alfred Molina was great as Doc Ock, no doubt, but a growing fear I have is that this movie might be a bit too pre-occupied with these Role Reprisal s to sufficiently follow up on Far From Home's mid-credits scene. I'm just worried this might spiral into a clickbait website's wet dream. Granted the MCU and the Spider-Man stuff we've got is much better and more consistent with its quality so maybe I'm worrying for nothing.
Self-serious autistic trans gal who loves rock/metal and animation with all her heart. (she/her)Yes it seems I got that wrong after scanning Dark Reign's Wikipedia page, still I maintain it would require synergy with the MCU given that he would have a huge amount of power in the superhero community. And you know it's an adaptation, so he could become president. Still I really do hope they repair bridges instead of pettily keeping them broken.

The deal is for one more Spidey solo film (this upcoming one) and one crossover film/appearance in another MCU heroes film. Then they have to renegotiate the deal.
