Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Yeah. I saw she was trending on Twitter and it's really bad. She's responding to people by saying she's "just asking questions", but she posted what I understand to be some kind of religious conspiracy theory video (which is apparently also transphobic) against the COVID vaccine, and she also recently liked a post to the effect that the vaccine was some kind of Bill Gates-connected conspiracy.
I think it's all somewhat Qanon/satantic pedophiles related.
And through some of the Twitter comments, I also saw that she tweeted something right after Biden won implying that she thought prophesies about the anti-Christ were fulfilled. I don't have a frame of reference for why people got that out of what she tweeted, but if you look up "Letitia Wright antichrist" on Twitter all of the results are either praising or criticizing her for saying that Biden is the anti-Christ.
So, congratulations Chris Pratt. You are no longer the MCU actor with the worst beliefs.
Edit - Also, somewhat amusingly(?) Wright is also liking tweets that say she should be fired/Black Panther 2 should be cancelled.

I mean, Terrence Howard is still in the running for that.
Side note, but I'll never forget one Saturday Night Live episode hosted by some MCU actor (Cheadle? RDJ?) where there was a sketch making fun of Goop and presenting it as a creepy scam and cult and then Paltrow herself appeared and really came across as charming and likable for her ability to laugh at herself.
That's prime Affably Evil there.
It's really disheartening. Wright previously came across well and I really wanted Shuri to be the new Panther, but now, I'm hoping for a recasting.

Fucking Hell, T’Challa’s dead & Shuri is played by an asshole.
What’s next, Ta-Nehesi Coates the current writer of the BP comics is revealed to be a quanon supporter?
Not a good year for the character, granted not a good year for most people.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Apparently she made a weird theorie that luciferase (actual protein that exhibits bioluminescence which allows changes to be detected) is related to the devil because Lucifer I guess.....
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."I recall that someone once said that it's not healthy to make idols out of actors for the fictional roles they played rather than the actual persons they are. Essentially, you falling for a mask and assume it's one and the same with the actor behind the mask. Now sometimes, you may find the mask and the real face to truly be one and the same, like Chadwick Boseman. But after the days of #Me Too! and the numerous scandals that came after the initial movements, you can't assume that anymore.
I once bitterly joked that if every scandal or terrible opinion were to be unearthed and we proceed to cancel culture the people guilty of these things, nearly all of Hollywood would be out of work because these things are so ingrained into the system that it's essentially treated as normal. And by the time we realize that it's not normal, it's difficult to throw out the bad apples.
Personally, I would focus on where the misinformation is coming from since it's clear this is not one bad apple incident. One bad apple is known to spoil the bunch, so you better find the original bad apple.
Well, there is the option of recasting. That's what filmmakers do when dealing with a problematic actor.

Drat. I really liked Shuri and Wright's portrayal of her. I had been looking forward to see her deal with T'Challa disappearance (however they integrated it).
Not a fan of Killmonger anyway. I'd rather they use Nakia or Okoye instead.

Whatever your favourite work is, there is a Vocal Minority that considers it the Worst. Whatever. Ever!.So the solutions are either recasting (which has its problems), bringing in a totally new character like Casper Cole (which also has issues), or promoting a well known support character like Okoye or Killmonger (which is theoretically the easiest but support to main transition is pretty tricky).
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."The other, more difficult solution is for Wright to give a public apology for irresponsible behavior on Twitter and admitting that she is in the wrong.
Apologies are so rare these days and we're in need of sincere apologies in this culture of refusing to take responsibility out of stubbornness and pride.

Well, this is yet another "oof" moment for several parties. But the back of my mind is sure this will all be resolved soon.
(*reads TV Tropes posts about Wright and anti-Christ/Satan mumbo jumbo*)

Geez, now it feels like I'm hoping against hope here...

Apparently Wright deleted the tweet sharing the video and posted this

On the one hand, I thank the One Above All that damage control happened posthaste.
On the other hand, her comment about the vaccine and what it might contain reminds me of something a friend of mine told me. They were worried that the COVID-19 vaccine was some way for the government to have a tighter control on us.
Closest analogy I could think of was the nanomachines in Metal Gear Solid, especially with how they were used in the second and fourth games. (Though I'm not sure my friend would agree to that analogy.)
Mind you, I don't believe my friend by any stretch of the imagination. But it does raise my paranoia by a lot...

Well that’s ironic considering she’s paying super-genius Shuri.
