Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

True

On the vague topic marvel has a lot of young hero teams that they then feed into a wood chipper as soon as the luster wears off

Runaways has a show so if you had to combine New Warriors, Champions, Avengers Academy, Young Avengers, and name an x book there’s so many into one combined MCU youth team who be?

I think another reason why I'm not expecting to see the Champions right away is because most of them are fairly recent and have yet to build up a substantial length of runs. Miles and Kamala are the exceptions but the rest have generally had just one or two runs so I think Marvel's holding off on them until they build up several more years of stories.

[up][up] Interestingly contrasts with DC cause Teen Titans is their consistent mainline teen group with only Young Justice as the other offshoot to my recollection.

Pretty much.

I once pointed out that Marvel has had a lot more young teen hero teams than DC, even though DC were the ones with all the kid sidekicks.

Though both companies tend to put their kid sidekicks through the meat grinder.

Oh, DC also has the Legion of Super-Heroes.

Related to the cosmic discussion, the other day I learned about or maybe was reminded of Jazinda. Kind of similar to an idea I had with Ethan Edwards, I think it would be cool/amusing to have them seemingly used as a muggle side character, and then reveal they are a (good-aligned?) Skrull.

Like with Jazinda, my idea would be that she would be Jennifer's gal pal and roommate and would occasionally reference her overbearing father or be on the phone with him. And then eventually, we'd find out that she is Talos' daughter.

To make it even funnier, you could have both Jazina and Ethan as She-Hulk side characters.

Part of why I like the idea is because Orphan Black touches on the fear that everyone you interact with is secretly monitoring you.

The costume makes me wonder if they'll use the part from the first Ms. Marvel issue where Kamala morphs into Carol Danvers when her powers first activate. Maybe they'll even get Brie to cameo.

[up][up] so the twist with Howard the Duck's friend in the last Howard the Duck series? Except they didnt tie her to a specific Skrull. Just that at least one of her parents was one.

I guess it got glossed over, but it looks like Matt Lintz will be Bruno in the Ms. Marvel series.

For the uninitiated, Matt Lintz is famous for playing Henry from The Walking Dead and was one of the finalists to play the MCU version of Spider-Man before the role went to Tom Holland.

Wasn't there an earlier casting call for Red Dagger and that evil boyfriend from near the end of the original run?

I hope the latter turns out to be false. God, I so want to see the Inventor as the Big Bad.

Marvel has officially tapped a pair of writers for Deadpool 3. The project seems to be moving forward after much uncertainty.

As Disney continues to figure out what to do with what to do with Fox properties they acquired in the merger, one of the biggest I Ps, Deadpool, looks to be gaining momentum. Sources tell Deadline that Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin to write Deadpool 3 with Reynolds set to reprise his role as wise-cracking superhero.

Writer meetings have been taking place over the past month with Reynolds recently meeting with a handful of writers to hear their pitch for the next installment. In the end, the studio and Reynolds saw the sisters take as the perfect fit for what they wanted. The film is still in early development but the hiring of the Molyneux sisters does mark the first major step in getting the next Deadpool film into production.

This marks the first Deadpool film where Marvel studios will work hand and hand with Reynolds and team Deadpool.

Justin Kroll from Variety adds that it will seemingly be R rated like the first two.

Continuity will probably be made fun of within the movie.

Even in the first two movies the ties to the actual X-Men movies Fox was putting out were largely minor, if that. The Fourth Wall busting nature of the character means integrating him wouldn't be too much of a problem.

His supporting cast may be another issue, depending on what Marvel and Feige wanna do with the X-Men going forward.

I wonder if Deadpool will remain in his own ecosystem, referencing the other MCU films but not the other way round, or if he will be allowed some cameos or even actual parts in the ensemble cast MCU movies (where he would probably comment on how he's not allowed to swear).

Oh hey, Deadpool 3 is happening for real? grin

(*reads that Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick aren't returning*)

Awwwww. sad

(*reads that Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin are Emmy-winning writers for Bob's Burgers*)

Oooooh! I like Bob's Burgers! What episodes did they write? So I can watch them. Also, it wouldn't be the first time ladies wrote for our favorite cancerous mercenary. Apparently Gail Simone's run with the character is legendary?

Now I reeeeeeeally want to know how they wedge Deadpool into the MCU. Does his Earth get incursion'd and he plops into Earth-199999 by dumb luck?

Bump.

Black Panther 2 looks to be aiming to start filming on July 2021.

Tenoch Huerta, star of Netflix's Narcos: Mexico, will be the bad guy and Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong’o, Winston Duke and Angela Bassett seem set to appear, with Wright probably having a more major role.

I say "probably" because THR uses "may have". That said, it's looking 99.9999% likely that we're getting Shuri as BP after all.

Huh it doesn't mention the plans on how to do this without Chadwick, but Tenoch Huerta from Narcos: Mexico has signed on to play one of the antagonists apparently. [nja]
