Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

The quintessential Marvel Hercules story is him being exiled from Olympus in THE FUTURE and going on a galactic romp with a Robot Buddy as he battles cults, Galactus, and the Twilight of the Olympians while learning humility.
Admittedly I’d rather Disney made that instead of a live action Hercules movie, but I can see fears that Guardians has stepped on its toes.
If I were Disney I'd try to make a movie that would be a remake of the animated Hercules movie AND an adaptation of Marvel Hercules set in the MCU at once.
Framing device: Hercules arrives in the modern day and starts narrating his story, but it soon becomes clear he's somewhat of an Unreliable Narrator (especially if there are youngsters in his audience and it's implied he's trying to clean the myths up for their sake). By the end it's not very clear how much of it was true and how much it wasn't, and that's up to the audience to decide.
Huh.
That'd be something to see.
Herc actually did something like that before. He was telling some kids about a fight he had with Thor, where he made himself out to be the most awesome dude while Thor was a total punk who's ass he kicked from one end of town to the other...
To paraphrase the Prince of power:
Hercules: And with his final blow, the God of Thunder hurled me to a place even the gods had forgotten: New Jersey.
One Strip! One Strip!I quite like Hercules and think that he has one of the biggest hearts in Marvel but that's not the one New Jersey joke I'll accept so go to hades, jerc.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersTo be fair, I may be misquoting. I'd have to find the exact issue to know for sure.
Edit: Oh. I found it. Issue 356 of Volume 1.
And yup, Herc says Thor knocked him to Jersey and that it's god forsaken.
.....so if you live in New Jersey, feel free to hate Marvel Hercules.

One Strip! One Strip!Looks like Groot will be in Love and Thunder after all. Paparazzi ninjas spotted Vin Diesel arriving to Australia.
Surprised Diesel of all peopleneeds to go to be on site for it if it's a voice role. He could probably record it in a studio nearer to home. Unless there's some mo-cap work to do?
If it's just Pratt and Diesel then we can assume that the Guardians role in love and thunder is probably an opening cameo. If the rest of the crew show up it may be something more substantial.

"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."Maybe Thor 4 will also be GotG 2.5, in the same way Captain America 3 was Avengers 2.5 (yes, I know all those movies have actual names, but it's funnier that way).
Whatever your favourite work is, there is a Vocal Minority that considers it the Worst. Whatever. Ever!.Could be. Not sure if Gunn would sign off on that though as GOTG seems to be his pet project and he's got plans of his own IIRC.
He might be okay with giving Waititi an outline though and letting him have a go. They seem to have fairly similar, compatible approaches/mindsets about the MCU.
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."True. Ragnarok did not feel that far in tone from the GOTG films.
I sometimes wonder how much of the future MCU films will be purely focused on a given hero or team, compared to those that will include more or less extended cameos from other teams (like Ragnarok, Ant-Man or Homecoming did, Civil War being an extreme example). I'm all for the franchises merging with one another as much as possible as it reinforces the feel of a shared universe and can help avoiding some of the Superman Stays Out of Gotham questions, but of course that should not take away the focus from the titular hero/team.
Whatever your favourite work is, there is a Vocal Minority that considers it the Worst. Whatever. Ever!.Vin does the Mo-Cap for Groot IIRC, unlike Rocket where the onset mo-cap is done by Sean Gunn and Cooper does the VA in a studio later.
So it's possible we got three of the Guardians.
Also remember it was originally planned that Vol 3 would be the first or second post Endgame MCU film. Then Gunn got fired/re-hired and in the gap got signed to do Suicide Squad so that delayed Vol 3 for a year at least, THEN Love and Thunder got announced, then COVID hit.
So it's possible the Guardians will have small roles in Love and Thunder and Gunn is already tweeking his script to work that in.
x4: It's missing the winter hat, but I guess that's because of the helmet. Definitely wasn't expecting to see a small glimpse of the Ms. Marvel costume or at least a prototype of it...

There might be more significance in the jacket than there ever was in the comics. MCU!Kamala's jacket looks to be based on Carol's green flight suit jacket from her movie, right down to having a patch for the USAF Test Pilot School on the left sleeve. And apparently there's a flying sloth patch on the other sleeve? Must be a meme thing.
EDIT: AAAAAAHHHH Kamala wearing a Carol Costume on the set!!!!

The reason is that when Nyx killed the Olympians in Avengers No Road Home, they were reborn as jerky space versions of themselves.
Hercules went into space to find them and specifically Athena who is the only one he really likes? maybe? Anyway, the Space Olympians captured and tortured him and he was freed by the Guardians but Peter died so I guess Hercules felt partially responsible and/or he has nothing better to do after Space Olympus was blown into another dimension.
Thaaaaats the context.
Also, he's dating Noh-Varr and they're even doing quantum swaps, ifuknowwhatimean
